Well he did beat one of these guys in Ehikhamenor (who I rated last, the guy is also 34 years old), and he's still got his power. But yes there are quite a few sharp fighters in this bunch that would do a number on Herbie...it's not that he's that bad, some of these Cruisers are just that good.
That's the first thing I thought of when I heard about this! Also, if they can get Enzo Calzaghe, to hell with McGirt. Get Roger Mayweather to train the US team. Just think of it: Ding/Nwodo II with Uncle Roger in one corner and Enzo in the other:yep
Funny thing is, it wouldn't matter if they have 2 world class trainers or 2 idiots in their corners, that fight only goes down one way: as a total bloodbath!
Wow this would be great. There are some real matchups to be made there. I'd take Tokarev as the early favorite, but all of those guys are capable.
I'd say staying on weight for the two or three weeks the show is shot will be a BIG problem for some of these guys... you only have a days notice to fight. Anyone know when this is to air? I can't wait! (Go Ding!)
That would be ****ing awesome. :yep Great resume of names there by the way... and it's true, seems like The Contender is really starting to win some legitimacy with solid contenders now being used in there shows.
Pull the other one. He's only been out of his depth when in with Bowe and Klit, as would every other name on that list.
Just give O'Neil Bell his own reality show. Yeah, that's a good idea. Stick the guy who threw a hatchet at his sparring partner, and didn't bother showing up to three of his own scheduled fights in the past three years, in front of the camera. 2/3 of those guys mentioned will never end up on the show for various reasons. I also find it difficult to believe that a guy like Flores, who's in a mandatory position, would go on the Contender, but maybe it's enough of a name boost now that it's worth it for the money. Axe - Afolabi's claim to fame is that he beat Eric Fields, who some were claiming would be the savior of the Cruiserweight division. Also, Shawk Hawk is nothing special. He got a decent promotional deal because he's native american, and his promoters are Sycuan (which is a tribe), but other than that, he's kinda slow and not technically very good.
No, Ola Afolabi's claim to fame is thumping Eric Fields, the man many Americans on here where hyping as the guy to beat Haye and then sweep up at heavyweight. I love how this is conveniently forgotten but if you flipped the script and it was an english big prospect losing to an american journeyman you would never hear the end of it. EDIT....Just realised Brickhaus wrote the same thing, good on ya buddy
If I was the shows producers I'd strive to get Alexeev in, he'd win the show, become known to the mainstream boxing media, and boom, a star is born without the inevitable wait for the kid over the next few years to get the big fights.
OK, so he beat Fields. People were hyping Fields off of one good ko over a shot and chinny Kel Davis. It shows how this board often goes overboard. As for Ola, he's decent, but the time I saw him against Michael Simms he was pretty much a plodder, not a ton of power and didn't throw enough punches. In fact, I thought he lost that fight narrowly. Maybe he's improved since then. All the guys on that list with the exception of Hawk, M. Williams and Ehikeminor have the potential to be top Cruisers.
