I think this is the greatest fight of all time, Battling Nelson vs Ad Wolgast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tua0XuZeIU
It's certainly a very bloody affair. Jeannette v McVey, 1909 Paris? The two unfilmed Zale Graziano fights? The second Jeffries v Fitz fight in which Hype Igoe said Jeffries shipped more punishment than Willard at Toledo, yet came on to win when Fitz smashed his hands to bits on Jeffries face? Jim Driscoll all but 40 years old, out boxing Charles Ledoux for half the fight then the sand running out of his hourglass ?Driscoll would be dead in 4 years. Jimmy Wilde terribly brave but out- gunned against the great Pete Herman? 1921-01-13 : Jimmy Wilde 110 lbs lost to Pete Herman 119½ lbs by TKO in round 17 of 20 Location: Royal Albert Hall, Kensington, London, United Kingdom Referee: Jack Smith A Telegraph article from 2004 about Jimmy Wilde stated, "Alas, Wilde was too brave for his own good, signing a contract to meet world bantamweight champion Peter Herman in 1921. Amid rumours the American was running scared that if he lost his title to Wilde he would never regain it came news that Herman had unexpectedly been beaten by Joe Lynch (from whom he would swiftly win back the bantamweight crown with ease); smelling a rat that he had been set up, Wilde would have pulled out of the now non-title bout but for the intervention of the Prince of Wales, who appealed to his sense of patriotism, plus a massive (for the day) purse of £8,000...Typically, Wilde gave his all and then some, referee Jack Smith eventually calling a halt in the 17th round with the famous words: "I'm sorry, Jimmy; I have to pick you up because you don't know how to lie down." Who knows, as old as I am, I haven't seen them.
For me it will always be Chacon-Limon IV. Such great theater, one couldn't have scripted it more dramatically. Great fights should have shifts in momentum, and this one is among the best examples of this I can think of. Sensational action, if not always artful. As mentioned by others before, Bobby needed the knockdown in the final round to ice the decision, after all they had been through in the first 14. It gets no better. My second favorite is probably Matthew Saad Muhammad - Yaqui Lopez II. Saad being Saad. Round eight is unreal. Also worthy of mention are Vasquez-Marquez III and Morales-Barrera I. Amazing fights. I recently watched Basilio KO 9 Johnny Saxton and really enjoyed that one too. Another fave is Gavilan KO 11 Gil Turner.
Zale v Graziano two has a few minutes of amateur film available, the others I would also love to see but as far as what i have seen film of, nothing beats nelson versus Wolgast. As for Wilde, I am amzed that he never actually flew away when the first gust of wind blew he looks so light but yeah a real good fighter. The jeanette versus McVey fights were classics especially that one in Paris (I am assuming they fought often), Jeannette was an awesome fighter and McVey hit incredibly hard from what I know of him, jeannette was like a proto Ali in style I think.
No such thing as a boring Baslio fight, nor a boring DeMarco fight... I admit I never have seen Chacon v Limon... seems I better go watch it.
yeah he was, he didn't run he fought hard and he had some very subtle skills as he displayed in the DeMarco fights
