Hello Boys! I’m new here. Thought I’d join the discussion.

Are there any contenders who fell short of a title but got into the HOF? I mean in modern history. I know a lot of the old time Black fighters are in because they never had the opportunity to fight for the big prize –but were clearly great. What about recent years? Any contenders in the hall? Any deserve to be in who aren’t?

Good question. I checked the list and I didn't see any modern guys who didn't win a title except maybe Ken Norton depending on how you view his claim to a title

As you say, there are lots of old-timers in the HOF, who never held a world title. After WW2 not so many. I believe the most recent one must be Laszlo Papp.

I'm sure he's not eligible yet, but, if we're talking contenders, I believe David Tua should be in the Boxing Hall of Fame.

Despite there being FOUR titles during much of his career, he only got one title shot, against Lewis, and the size disadvantage was HUGE.

But he knocked out guys who would become champions - Moorer, Maskaev, Rahman, Ruiz. Fought nearly all the name contenders. Finished 52-5-2, and two of those losses came in his last two outings when he was 40 and wasn't the same anymore.

    So really more like 52-3-2.

That's about as quality a contender as you'll get who never wins a world title. And he was very popular all over the world. His fame wasn't just hidden in one corner of the world.

I would have no objections if his name found itself on the ballot and he got in.

Yaqui Lopez maybe. You only had the greatest decade of Lt.Heavy champs in front of him.
