Zarate a better puncher all time p4p than Ike Williams. Neither Dempsey or Johnson are top 10 HW's all time.
Lewis avoided Byrd and dropped a belt to fight Grant, I believe. Byrd said Lewis was scared, and Ruiz called him a girl. I think Lewis defeats Byrd, but his massive ego would take a hit if Byrd made him look bad. Lewis as great as he is was never great at controlling the tempo of a fight.
If Walter McGowan hadn't been a bleeder he could of been an atg at flyweight. One of the most pleasing to the eye fighters I've ever seen. I wouldn't hesitate in saying he had more natural ability than Buchanan.
I don't know the exact outcome, but I see most assuming big KO from Lennox, and Lennox himself didn't think he could do that to Byrd. Byrd was small, but had longer arms than people realize, was a southpaw(Lennox HATED us lefties) and had a terrific jab. Thats a hard fight, and would have been a 12 round headache for the champ. He didn't duck Byrd, persay, as he went on to take tough challengers, and Grant was considered a tough fight. I just think he wanted no part of a frustrating fight that he didn't need.
I agree with that Al. In fact the case could be made for him being an ATG Flyweight already, albeit a borderline one.
I think that Buchanan said as much himself about Walter, Al. That he was the most purely skilled British boxer ever or something to that effect. He certainly bears up very well under scrutiny in comparison to other innately gifted British fighters: Driscoll, Lynch, Winstone, Conteh etc. Btw thanks for putting up the second scrap between him and your old boy, one of the greatest of stand offs between two homelanders. On a different note I've thought for quite a while now that Benn in his own way was one of the most naturally gifted British fighters ever. Just that he never seemed bothered in developing, tweaking or expanding upon his natural gifts until he was too long in the tooth and had started to deteriorate physically. For such a frenetic, furious, bollocks to the wall type he had a natural fluidity of technique, punch and movement and also a built in offensive/defensive methodology that were never correctly brought along imo. A greater natural talent than Eubank or Watson I'd say.
