Well if he had beaten Ali, he may not have retired when he did and then come back to become the oldest heavyweight champ of all time...?
...and he may not have blessed us with the lean, mean, grilling machine either. Oh, how the world would have been different.
Maybe not "controversial", just a tad unpopular. Aaron Pryor is extremely overrated historically. A very talented fighter, but his achievements fall short of making him worthy of the praise he gets. Marco Antonio Barrera won all 3 fights against Erik Morales. Oscar De La Hoya got a gift against Ike Quartey. That was a worse decision than Felix Trinidad's win over Oscar. More on that below, I ahd this post on another board. I just watched the Quartey-De La Hoya fight, very closely. Originally I scored it 114-113 for Quartey. This time, I watched it extremely carefully, slow-motioning and zooming sometimes to see which punches landed. Oscar got a complete and total gift. The rounds weren't difficult to score at all. 114-113 Quartey is rather generous to Oscar, 114-113 for DLH is extremely generous to Oscar. Having Oscar ahead by any more than one point is ridiculous, almost as bad as Foreman's comnentary that night.
Though I like him, Mosley only Really looked good first fight with DLH. His whole carreer was based on that. Mosley is overrated.
STFU ******, mosley is a 3 weight division champ, he has accomplished more than you or your father ever will.
Tsk, tsk, young one. I hope you know my father is Sugar Ray Robinson. Just kidding. Also, dumb ass. This thread is about controversial opinions, in other words, leave your bull**** HBO dogma at the front door. You probably don't get the thread, it's about stating something you believe that goes against traditional thought. Menso.
I was about to say how long before this decent thread deteriorates into childish name calling but it's already happened. Man this place is tiresome.
I have come to the absolutely mad opinion that SRL actually defeated Duran in their first fight (8-7). Duran did absolutely nothing except maul and clown over the last three rounds, allowing Leonard to sweep them, and pull out a victory on my scorecard.
I think Mayweather and De La Hoya would've always given each other problems. De La Hoya is a larger guy (no matter where they won their first belts, Oscar is certainly the bigger man physically). His jab would always trouble Mayweather. His parrying skills could be very good, as it was when they fought. Oscar has quick hands himself, throws fluid (and eye catching) combinations, can crack. He'd give most welterweights ever a competitive fight. Mayweather's speed, defensive skills, superior stamina, intelligence, striaght right hands, would always trouble De La Hoya in return. I know it's kind of a cliche, but speed has troubled Oscar in his career.
Well to do that you will have to name 150 fighters that were better than him...:deal Go on, i dare you.:think
