    An interesting discussion i just thought of based on @MaccaveliMacc thread in regards to Holyfield/Valuev.

    This is just based on your opinions BTW in regards to how you scored these fights.

    So basically your opinions on how you scored these fights would be the official decisions in a hypothetical scenario.

    How much of a difference do you think some of these controversial decisions that these notable Heavyweights won or lost would make a difference to their overall standing ?

    I'll give a few examples.

    Muhammad Ali

    Jones = Ali won 6-4 IMO.
    Norton 2 = Ali won 7-5 IMO.
    Norton 3 = Ali lost 8-7 IMO.
    Young = Draw IMO.
    Shavers = Ali 8-7 IMO.

    So based on how i saw these fights Ali would have 6 losses instead of 5.

    1 less win with a draw over Young.

    1 more loss to Norton and losing the trilogy overall.

    Based on my scoring and losing the trilogy to Norton i probably wouldn't have Ali as the number 1 Heavyweight anymore.

    Another factor is would Ali ever regain the title again ?

    Larry Holmes

    Norton = Holmes won 8-7 IMO.
    Witherspoon = Holmes won 7-5 IMO.
    Williams = Draw IMO.
    Spinks 1 = Holmes lost 8-7 IMO.
    Spinks 2 = Holmes won 10-5 IMO.
    McCall = Draw IMO.
    Nielsen = Holmes won 7-4-1 IMO.
    Harris = Holmes lost 6-4 IMO.

    Based on my scoring Holmes would have an extra title win and being 1-1 with Spinks which may be enough to give him a more of deciding edge over Lewis in the overall standings.

    George Foreman

    Stewart = Foreman won 5-5 with the 2 knockdown edge IMO.
    Schultz = Foreman lost 8-4 IMO.
    Savarese = Foreman won 6-6 with a 1 point deduction edge IMO.
    Briggs = Foreman won 7-5 IMO.

    So Foreman's official record would stay the same but he would only have 4 world title wins instead of 6.

    How much of a difference would that make to his overall standing ?

    Foreman may go down a few places IMO.

    Tyson Fury

    McDermott 1 = Fury lost 6-4 IMO.
    Ngannou = Fury lost 5-5 with the knockdown IMO.

    With 4 losses on his record and a terrible loss to an MMA fighter Fury would not even be in my top 30 TBH.

    We get it: You hate Fury.

    A loss to Francis wouldn’t have significantly affected his standing. It would be chalked up to him being past prime and out of shape.

    BTW Francis was beating Joshua through the first round until he stupidly switched to southpaw and immediately got drilled (implying that he was a tough night’s work for heavyweights without much one shot power).

    A loss to an MMA fighter whilst he was the current Heavyweight champion of the world wouldn't of seriously effected his legacy and standing ?

    I know you are a Fury fan but that is total nonsense.

    It would be no worse than Ali losing to Spinks.

    I just think it was AJ taking his time. Ngannou would have been pasted either way it was a total mismatch.

    An Olympic gold medalist who was ranked as top 10 Heavyweight at the time.

    Compared to an MMA fighter who never had a professional boxing fight in his life.

    No losing to an MMA fighter would be far worse.

    It was a mismatch. But Fury never had that kind of power and was trying to feign Francis, who walked right through the feints bc of how unpolished he was. Fury still won that fight and the scores for Francis are due to rooting for the underdog.

    It really is a shame that Francis didn’t make a serious run at boxing around COVID era.

    There’s a pretty high chance that Francis would eat whatever Spinks threw at him and spark him.

    Fury couldn't make Ngannou fall for his feints and couldn't make use of his clinching as he was overpowered in the clinches.

    Basically no plan B after that Fury showing limitations.

    Spinks beat and stopped highly dangerous puncher Bernardo Mercado who sparked out Berbick quicker than a prime Tyson did.

    So I'd say no to that.

    Off the top of my head:

    Muhammad Ali

    Jones = Ali 7-3
    Norton II = Ali 8-4
    Norton III = Ali 8-7
    Young = Young 9-6
    Shavers = Ali 8-7

    Larry Holmes

    Norton = Holmes 9-6
    Witherspoon = Holmes 7-5
    Williams = Holmes 8-7
    Spinks I = Spinks 9-6
    Spinks II = Holmes 9-6
    McCall = Draw

    George Foreman

    Stewart = Draw 5-5, but Foreman won off of KDs
    Schultz = Schulz 8-4
    Savarese = Draw 6-6, but Foreman won off of the point deduction
    Briggs = Foreman 8-4

    Tyson Fury

    McDermott I = 6-4 Fury
    Ngannou = Draw 5-5, but Ngannou won with the knockdown

    Yeah and Francis is built like a bigger version of Ike and you’re totally discounting his MMA results.

    How would those decisions change the overall standings of each fighter ?

    How much higher or lower would you rank them ?

    Hard to say. If Ali lost the rematch with Norton he would probably retire, so his whole second reign would be gone from history books. If he lost the trilogy fight, he would still be the GOAT heavyweight imo. If he lost to Young he probably would win the rematch as he was out of shape and didn't take him seriously. If he didn't win the rematch, then he probably still be a lock for Top 2, but wouldn't surpass Louis. I have no idea regarding Holmes. I don't rate George highly as many of the posters do (back end of Top 10), so if he lost these, he would be out of the Top 10.

    I honestly don’t even think someone can make a truly good-faith argument that Holmes-Witherspoon was controversial. It was competitive and relatively close, but no doubt Larry won. It was just surprising at the time.
