He took the latter two the distance, and arguably deserved the decision in both (not against Harada IMO, but I felt he edged the Rose fight, in Japan and Australia no less). Olivares and Harada both in my top 60 P4P GOATs. Only Pac in mine from Hattons ledger. Rudkin also has a better resume than Hatton (bar Tszyu, and if you include the Rose 'win' then he certainly does) and was the far better fighter.

Hatton totally out of his depth twice.

this isnt controversial but I watched Joe Louis vs Ezzard Charles recently and was impressed at what Joe Louis was able to do at his advanced age. An excellent performance by him really, he had Charles hurt several times, bleeding and I think he took 5 rounds. Never knew it was going to be this competitive before watching it.

Ronnie Jones a decent enough fighter who had mixed in good opposition and had a win over Walter McGowan. Rudkin, not a big puncher, bludgeoned him in two rounds.

Vs former World Flyweight champion Walter McGowan. McGowan was coming off his 2nd loss on cuts to Thai great Chartchai Chionoi. Again way ahead in the fight, McGowan suffered a horrible cut on the eye, but desperately tried to get the tough Thai out of there. Straight after, he challenges takes on Rudkin for British and Commenwealth glory, in a rematch of a highly controversial first encounter which, by all accounts, the Scouser won. Brilliant and competitive fight this between two highly-skilled World class operators.

Alright lads, I came across this and found it pretty interesting, but didn't really know where to put it, so forgive me for posting it in here if it's not relevant. It's a pound for pound list from Boxing Illustrated in 1977, which is a while before these kind of rankings were argued about in boxing publications with regularity.

I always find old lists like this intriguing as you are able to see how these fighters were rated during their time, as opposed to nowadays when it's people looking back upon their acheivements years later. Just thought I'd share it, apologies also if it's already common knowledge:

    1. Carlos Zarate
    2. Carlos Monzon
    3. Roberto Duran
    4. Alexis Arguello
    5. Miguel Canto
    6. John Conteh
    7. Wilfred Benitez
    8. Carlos Palomino
    9. Victor Galindez
    10. Esteban De Jesus
