As I said afterwards, I don't buy into that either. Larry is a bitter, excuse maker. Tyson blitzed him, no one did before or after.

But of course, it's pretty fashionable nowadays to dismiss the resume Tyson packed into those couple of years and say 'he was a bully' or 'his prime was too short'. He was f'n amazing, and that's why he destroyed Holmes.

Tyson after the fight: 'That wasn't the real Larry Holmes'. Modest as always when regarding his own ability.

Really? Is that why he went on to victories over the likes of Fenech, Leija, Ruelas, La Porte, etc. afterward? Those were some of his best wins. He may not have been at his peak against Whitaker, but he was hardly washed up.

I rather enjoy watching Hugo Corro, despite the fact that he is widely considered to be mind-numbingly dull.

People who suggest that Ali had some kind of massive struggle against Wepner should really watch the fight.

    Not controversial, completely true.

I'm still waiting for the mong above to tell me why 'the sugar rays are overrated'.

Unless he's talking about 'Sugar' Ray Seales and the band 'Sugar Ray' :think

I've got one. The more I read about Jack Johnson the better I think he is. He used to toy with his opponents at will, smiling and talking to them all the time, and he still used to beat them up! He didn't really look interested, and that's why he was so good. He probably beats every heavyweight in history that was smaller than him aside Louis.

The 50s LHW scene was better than the 80s WW scene :deal

That's not controversial, the 80s Welterweight 'scene' is completely fragmented with 3 fighters essentially having their own 'era' (Leonard, Curry, Starling) anyways. And the 50s LHW scene is pretty much Universally recognised as the greatest era for any weight class.

I actually go the opposite way with Johnson to be honest. It was more a case of 'the more I read about Sam Langford the more I realised he was better than Jack Johnson'.
