There is some controversy in Puerto Rico over Abner Cotto received the "Rookie This content is protected of The Year Award" from the Boxing Commission of Puerto Rico at the annual awards dinner on Wednesday night. Edwin Rosado, the trainer of unbeaten 2008 olympian Jonathan Gonzalez,is claiming the commision was being a bit biased by giving the majority of the awards to the Cotto family and overlooking other puerto ricans fighters.GONZALEZ is an unbeaten welterweight who made his pro-debut in 2009 and went 6-0 with all the wins coming by way of Knockout.Rosario also said CRUISERWEIGHT Carlos Negron was overlooked.Negron made his pro-debut also in 2009 winning 6 bouts and 5 by KO....Abner Cotto also fought 6 times in 09 winning 6 fights 4 of them by KO. On the same night Abner received his award,Cotto promotions was honored,JOSE COTTO received the award for "comeback of the year"and the event was dedicated to the late Miguel Cotto sr. who passed away in january......"The decision made by the boxing commision was like an assault with a deadly weapon". I disagree with that decision,JONATHAN was an olympian and went 6-0-6 Kos...............They gave all the AWARDS to the Cotto's,with no consideration to the others fighters:..........................................I SAW ABNER COTTO ON THE COTTO-FOREMAN UNDERCARD,AND WASN'T THAT IMPRESSED!
Jose Cotto comeback of the year. He got beat by Saul Alvarez. And his 09 wins were against tomato cans.
There's always controversy in boxing back home, even tito trinidad who is loved by everyone was mad with the boxing federation when he wasnt picked to go to the Olympics and that's why he turned pro. You cant make everybody happy but yes the boxing federation is filled with politicians and people that dont have the best interests of boxing in their mind. :hat
