Conveniently Timed Stoppages For Possibly Promotionally Pressured Propagandistic Purposes.

Now I'm not saying there's any definitive proof of anything. Merely that there seems to occasionally be some suspiciously timed stoppages, usually when the outcome seems quite inevitable. But by calling it a round early, it allows the promoters adn hypers on the web to boast about how their favorite fighter managed to stop a fighter quicker than someone else, usually noted for their power. Because.. you know, that's how this sport works, word of mouth, and usually word of mouth spread by know nothing casuals.

    Here's my four examples.

Povetkin's gifted TKO win over Wach. Clearly cinderblocked skulled Mariusz wasn't in bad a shape and could've easily seen out another 2 minutes of the fight. The cut on his cheek wasn't encumbering his vision, also at that point he was holding more than anything.I mean, we're not talking about Vitali TKO6 Jason machete victim brutal here. He might've had a cracked cheek bone. At best Povetkin would have clipped him with a few more hooks, similar to the ones he was landing the entire fight. But by the doctor waving it when he did, it handed Sasha a hell of a propaganda coup, being the first man to stop the most iron chinned fighter in the sport that yes, a feat that even Sasha's mortal enemy Grabamir Klitschko couldn't even accomplish. It was total bull****, ridiculous and uncalled for. But hey... The Russian Vityaz had that feather in his cap now didn't he?

Kamil Szeremeta had a full training camp for his match with GGG, and had been mentally and physically preparing for that match for months on end. When they finally faced off, Kamil ended up getting dropped not only by almost every clean punch GGG landed on him, but even a few from glancing blows. So that gave people the false impression that Kamil by being dropped that many times, would fold like a cheap suit against De La Hoya featherfisted hypejob Jaime Munguia. Well Jaime literally teed off on Kamil for 6 rounds straight, never came close to dropping him, quite frankly he was never even badly wobbled. Now keep in mind, this is a late replacement Kamil, who took the fight on around 2 weeks notice. But hey his corner yanked him against GGG after the 7th, after decisively losing every round by bludgeoning. Some were even calling his corner sadistic for allowing him to take as much punishment as he did. But this same corner, seemingly happily yanked him at the end of the 6th against Munguia, which while yeah, it wasn't a great round for him, and the writing was on the wall. How about a knockdown, or four? But as luck would have it, he was pulled from the fight, oh so conveniently one round before he was pulled against GGG. Kamil was all smiles.

Why didn't they learn their lesson after they brought Lemieux brutal KO1 victim Spike O'Sullivan in to be a quick KO sacrificial lamb for Mungles? Only for him to take several rounds off of the overhyped Ogre Sarah Silverman and finally end up succumbing late in the 11th.

Then there's one of the more atrocious and quite frankly sadistic stoppages I've seen in recent years. Poor Glass Jawed Gammy Achilles Heeled Gamboa, who was hopping around like like a one legged demonic munchkin, whinging haymaker after haymaker, most of them missing by a mile, against the profoundly overrated Stank Davis. Now the Tropical Depression Of Guantanamo, a few fights removed from being decisively savaged and forced to quit on his stool against shot to hell pain in the ass upset artist Robinson Castellanos, and of course a few years removed from getting the Bud Crawford treatment. He was seen as almost a sure thing that Davis would blitz him in a matter of seconds. Well inexplicably, either Gamboa got a chin implant, or Fatvonay didn't train all that well, or maybe his vaunted punching power isn't as impressive as advertised. For whatever reason, he basically had a gimp sitting duck he could tee off on all night, yet still, managed to be the beneficiary of a convenient Jack Reiss special, with slightly over 1:40 left in the match. Would he have forced the stoppage? Sure, maybe. But Reiss didn't want to take any chances. So instead of letting Gamboa have the benefit of the doubt, since he survived two other equally powerful shots, and sw out those rounds, he had to give Tank those bragging rights, even though they were kind of face saving bragging rights in this case. Because had he not stopped him, he'd have almost become a laughing stock.

Conor Benn's asinine British stoppage victory over Samuel Vargas was abominable. Was Vargas badly stunned? Yes. Was he held up by the ropes? Yes. Well how about a goddamn standing 8 count then? Well, I'll tell you why, he was dropped twice by Amir Khan early, which he managed to came back from only to drop Khan hard and almost KO him by rocking him to his core late in their fight. He also stood up to horrific 7 round beatings at the hands of 3 of the biggest punchers in the division in Spence, Ortiz and Garcia. Why take any risks on Sammy recovering right? Conor didn't need an actual challenge did he?Nah, he just needed undeserved bragging rights, well...he got them.

I have about 50 more examples I could give, but why be a glory hound?:sisi1

I'll save the rest for you all to take. Which are your favorite examples?

I remember Laurence Cole was a business tycoon in a life insurance firm. He was not only reffing fights but selling fighters life insurance. Something hypocritical in that position; he tended to stop fights earlier as teddy Atlas poured out that he was surely not risking paying out any life insurance from boxers families, let alone ref their fight. This was on the show the fight with teddy Atlas.

My favorite bs stoppages are Oquendo Ruiz, jawny only landed one clean punch lol. Then the fight between Peter Manfredi junior vs Joe Calzaghe, they might as well have canceled the fight and lift Joe's hand, without having a fight in the first place. Gosh what an example of poor officiating, the two were simply boxing...

This happens often. Especially wben a fighter is being pushed as the next best thing.
Joshua is a classic example for me.
Look at the fight vs Takam for example. Such a bs stoppage.

Came to say this I remember how criminal that was.

How about the opposite. If the tables was turned in the Fury/Wallin fight that would have for sure been stopped.

At the moment I can only think of opposite examples, fights that were let go on too long because they wanted to give the local fighter every chance to win. Anybody who watched Pride will know that the Japanese fighters were given way too much time in there, where other fighters would have been stopped. This resulted in some horrific beatings because they themselves were too brave for their own damn good.

It's one of the most infuriating areas of corruption because the reward is so small. You're fixing the end just so some commentator can say "he stopped X one round faster than Y did."

What does that even accomplish? Make the guy a cool promo video it probably has twice the impact and you don't have to ruin the sport in the process.

I think their should be a lot more stoppages when the fight is nothing more then a beatdown and 1 guy wins every round.
Povetkin was just violating wach to the absolut core, it was nothing more then target practice and should have bern weaved off much earlier.
I think to many people died in this sport to keep on doing this.
Also quitting should be more excepted like in the case of walters, i myself know how horrible it is when you face somebody who is just 3 classes above you and you become nothing more then a punching bag.

Kovalev was hit in the balls three times against Ward, but he only had two balls at the time- one ball too late.

    Wilder Ortiz 2.

Okay I'll admit Ortiz looked confused af when he was on the floor. But look at the time. Ortiz got on his feet and the bell would have rung immediately after resuming action, but that scumbag ref calls it off. At least give the guy a chance, he may have recovered during the rest period given he was able to get on his feet. Not to mention Ortiz recieved pretty much only one punch the entire fight and was beating the **** out of Wilder

This is another example of Wilders promotion taking no risks, they had to call it off there.. Imagine if Ortiz had recovered, they weren't gonna risk that. Look at the body language of the ref as the count approaches 10 he just wants to call it off regardless

Canelo against Yildrum. One flash knockdown scored and after that almost everything was blocked. Yildrum even shook Canelo up with a counter left hook. The corner was going to let it go for at least one round but since Young CHRIS brutally ended Yildirim in three rounds they had to save face somehow.

Tyson vs Ferguson. Jesse was giving Tyson a good fight, but was starting to feel the power of Tyson's shots, and wasn't really liking it. He often reverted to infighting to keep himself safe, but once he'd started to be warn down, infighting became holding. He was disqualified for it (whether rightly or wrongly is a different matter all together), and it was overturned to be a KO, so Tyson could keep his 100% KO record.

Vicente Saldivar's first loss (to Baby Luis) was complete bull****. I don't know the ins and outs, since it's in Spanish, but I remember being told by someone who does speak Spanish that it was some form of disqualification, but it happened before the start of the eight round, and went down as a TKO. Some dodgy officiating there :lol

And Marcel vs Duran. Very bad stoppage IMO, as Marcel was stopped for inactivity, I believe. Which is criminal. It was the final round, Marcel was just looking to see out the final minute or so, and they threw him under the bus because of how big Duran was in Panama. Shame, because Marcel was one incredible fighter as well. You have to be to beat Arguello.

That was a blatant fix imo along with Kovalev.. I've seen sparring footage between the two of going harder.. This is a Malik Scott Wilder esque blatant dive imo...compare Yildrim performance against Eubank he was throwing punches at Eubank as he was getting knocked out by several punches ... So now Canelo just mysteriously stops boxers throwing punches at all and boxers now have zero heart... A boxer who doesn't even try to throw or land punches is simply not there to win... Even if the guy is a good counterpuncher a boxer coming to win does not not throw punches and take risks

What about refs waving the fight off on a flagrant foul so that their boy gets the stoppage win/win?

Kovalev getting cracked in the plums by Ward repeatedly is the first to spring to mind

But this one is even more unbelievable

First a left cross which skims around the back of round of Fonseca's head and cuffs him off balance to the canvas and as he is down on the canvas Twink cracks him with a full power left hand to the back of the mind and instead of warning Twink and giving Fonseca time to recover the corrupt ref counts Fonseca out

Rabbit punches are illegal and that was a full power bomb to the back of the mind and punching a downed opponent is also illegal so the ref waved it off on a double foul

I don't think that Pov had been winner via gift because he still had won this one on any fair and honest judges cards.
He battered Wach, had landed on him x more than he get from Wach and overall too looked considerably better all fight. Then Pov was this version with normal legs.

Stoppage yeah, I think was not necessity here.
