Does being a converted orthodox or being a converted southpaw give a boxer an advantage or make no difference? Some great left handed boxers who were converted orthodox have got to world title level are Oscar De La Hoya Sonny Liston Miguel Cotto Gerry Cooney Similarly converted southpaws (naturally right handed) boxers have been successful like Vasiliy Lamenchenko and Shakur Stevenson Is it more of a biomechanical advantage to lead with your non dominant hand? There are plenty of great examples of great southpaws out there! just to name a few. Marvin Hagler Joe Calazghe Andre Ward Does anyone know of any other examples of converted orthodox or southpaw boxers and what might be the advantage? Is it likely the personal preference of the boxer themselves or at the insistence of a coach? There are also plenty of examples of switch hitters but as we know they doesn't always warrant the most desirable result for instance Marvellous Marvin Hagler Vs Sugar Ray Leonard with Hagler boxing orthodox in early rounds and also more recently Dillian Whyte Vs Tyson Fury with Whyte coming out early as a southpaw?
Henry Cooper I think was naturally left handed too but boxed orthodox his left hook knocked down Cassius Clay.
