hindu squats are in the book....they're great and all for the knees and for the breathing exercises...if done with the "proper rhythm"....

    edit:
I'm gonna go ahead and say that I wasn't all that impressed by the the second or third time I did the exercises [the hindu squats or pushups] I think BOMBER pushups are more effective for what hindu pushups target....and I believe Pistols are more effective than Hindu Squats. Anybody disagree or agree?

Thanks I'll give these a try. Maybe I'll try a pistol hindu squat variation.

    Source?

Doing a squat but coming up onto the balls of your feet while pointlessly swinging your arms around isolates your quads more than a regular squat?

The arm movements are for balance and you'll only mess up your knees if you're hitting the floor with your arse and bouncing up and down too quickly like a jack-in-the-box...which happens quite often with newbies impatiently trying to crank out hundreds per day from the very beginning. Ideally, hindu squats should be executed slowly and fluidly...not in a jerky manner. Trust me, they work as I've used them for years.

    exactly,
i dont see much difference from regular squats to hindu squats,

apart from the added arm motion,

Are you talking short term or long term? Because I just did some (couldn't go all the way down though) and I feel fine.

Still waiting for your source as to why these particular squats are better than normal squats.

    just try them for yourself.

and it's not just a regular squat with a silly ass arm motion. the arm motion is to keep you balanced as you keep your back straight and lower yourself your body will naturally come up on your toes as youre lowering....your raising your arm up to counter balance yourself and avoid from falling over as you come back up.

Why waste my time? I've never seen a top personal trainer/strength/olympic/powerlifting coach even mention hindu squats. I do bodyweight squats. I'm asking for a source of this information to see if it's worth doing these hindu squats as I see nothing special at all. I can see somebody blowing their knees out but that's about it.

It's obviously different to an actual squat but the swinging your arms around is pointless. You could get the same effect just holding your arms straight out infront of you instead of swinging them.

I've searched for hindu squats but all I'm getting is guys saying "Do them, they're great!" and "I can back squat 500lb. I thought I was strong until I tried hindu squats and could only do 10. Obviously I'm not as strong as I thought." Idiot.

you have to bring your arm down and up as you move it cant just stay in one position or you fall. THESE were a ghost to me...until i started going to ross boxing a little more [the training forum] and the workouts of the week. Every other week 'hindu' squats are thrown in there....so people "are" doing them....

BUT...to say they're the best is wrong-0, the motion done in rhythm with rhythmic breathing...can be an effective workout, but I didn't buy into something i was able to do so many reps of my first time around.

Did I hurt your feelings by asking questions? Asking for proof to a claim upset you? Awwwwwww.

I guess my reply will be... you're being a ****.

Was my post really that offensive to you? I ask for the source of where it says hindu squats are more effective at isolating the quads than a regular squat (which I'm still waiting for) so I'm a cocksucker for asking that? Really? I didn't say hindu squats are ****, the people that do them are idiots, I just don't believe they are more effective at anything than regular squats, so I asked for a source of information. It's how you learn, you should try it.

Seriously though, if you want to be a ***** and throw out random insults for no good reason then carry on.

Oh, and feel free to give examples of me being dogmatic, I'd love to know...
