I'm sure most folks know that Leon is not doing so well these days and his cancer has spread to his bones. I just watched one of his really great performances , his fight agaisnt Mercardo which lead to his title shot against Holmes that did not go so well.

With that said the Mercardo win was a good one against a guy that had just stopped Trevor Berbick and Ernie Shavers and was the number one contender at the time. Leon ate some huge shots in that fight but hung in there and wore the much larger and harder punching Mercardo down. Props to Leon and his fighting spirit.

The best performance in his career was against Mercado.

Agreed. Leon really had the potential to be something special like his brother but he pissed his career away. I live and St Louis and will tell you when I was fighting in the late 80's and early 90's I heard tons of stories from St Louis gym rats about how Leon was a better fighter than Michael and hiw he is to just destroy people in the gym. I met him a few times and he was always really cool. Never acted like a dick.
