I remember Manny going on about Wladimir’s talent even before he started training him and was with Lewis. Lol Steward damn sure knew the sport! Died way too soon.

I think by that time Wlad had pretty much internalized whatever Steward had to tell him. That said what I liked about Steward is that he would flay Wlad if he got too passive in his fights. That would have been of use during the AJ and Fury fights. Banks may be a good trainer but he has all the gung-ho fire of a hibernating sloth during an ice age.

I think AJ beats Wlad at that point in his career no matter what, but Wlad probably doesn't lose to Fury with Manny in his corner

Yep 100% agreed. Steward had a way of making fighters want to follow a game plan and train the way he saw fit. Combination of bonds that he made with them and motivation for the sport. Kind of like Cus used to do with his fighters. Add to that the guy just knew the sport inside and out so coming up with spot on game plans was second nature.

I actually think Manny would have given Wlad an A+ grade for the Pulev fight. Lol :D Wlad “Let them go” in that one nonstop but Pulev actually forced him to and brought that out of him. Which is what Steward always said about him. “Wladimir does his best when his opponent pressures him and takes the fight to him.”

I actually think the Wach fight was one that Manny would have loved because that was a combination of young Wlad and Prime Wlad in one. He fired away a lot in that one but Wach’s chin is Tex Cobbesque. And that was Wlad’s first fight without Steward if memory serves me correctly.

I really think Wladimir would have broken Joe Louis’s record had Steward stayed in this life.

Well... he was working with Wlad at the time.... so what he should say ? "Yeah well, Lennox was the best, Wlad is the second"

I don’t think he retires with the belts either way. Most boxers just fight on for too long, they’ve been doing this their whole lives so obviously it’s hard to give it up. Happy retirements are a little more common now, but still the exception.

Wlad aged very well, but still Father Time eventually caught up.
