And yet Hearns preferred the Motor City Cobra...

    Hitman is a bit cliche...

It was a tad racist and cliche; boxing should have evolved past this sort of thing by the 1980s.

Hence Holmes becoming the Easton Assassin rather than the Black Cloud...

    Always Enjoyed the "Spinks Jinx"

And yeah, I originally came in here to say Mike "second to" Nunn but I've been beat to it about 4 times over now haha

But not everything raCIAL is raCIST. Kelly Pavlik is "The Ghost" because he has white skin. Is that racial or racist? I say the former. It's harmless.

Dark Destroyer, Brown Bomber, Black Panther, Ghost....is it really that offensive?

(no swipe at you, Booze. Just making a general observation)

He actually crossed my mind (even if I thought his first name was Gerard).

I also think Dr. Ironfist is a brilliant nickname (whereas Dr. Steelhammer is utter ****)!

I have to confess, seeing this nickname on our fight list from this week's Prediction League fights got me first thinking on nicknames--La Princesa Azteca.

A tough one. I would say, the stuff about Louis and Wills probably could just about be excused by naivety; but by the time Benn came along, no.

The Ghost too, should not be used.

I know it all sounds relatively harmless. But in a sport that struggles to justify itself at the best of times, it does need to go above racial stereotyping.

Well, that is my 2 pence, I understand you might not agree with me, and on this subject there is no definitive answers, just opinions.:good

You'll never have another .07 seconds as exhilarating as that again in your now horribly depressing life.

    "Mysterious" Billy Smith

    "Gentleman" Jim Corbett

"The Count of Monte Fisto" Apollo Creed

"Sweet Pea" Whitaker (I believe the origin of this is he fought in a national amateur tournament near home. His name is Pernell but people knew him as Pete. The crowd started chanting "Sweet Pete" and a sportswriter misunderstood the chant and gave him the "Sweet Pea" nickname)

"The Explosive Thin Man" Alexis Arguello

    Rafael "Bazooka" Limon

    "Iron" Mike Tyson

    "The Greatest" Muhammad Ali

    "Wimpy" Halstead

    "Ambling Alp" Carnera
