Cooney 1981 vs Fury 2013

Maybe I'll be proved wrong, but I think it's a little deceptive to use those two KDs to evaluate Fury's punch resistance at this point in time. The shots weren't particularly hard ones in either case, but they both caught Fury squared up and wide open. Give Zuri Lawrence a shot like that and he might've knocked him down.

Knockdowns happen when you're a big lug who loves to wade in and mix it up. Fury likes to give guys free shots, and in the heavyweight division that can only mean bad things. But thus far the only man to seriously rock him up was Nicolai Firtha, a reasonably big puncher himself.

I don't doubt that if Cooney lands his lefts on Fury then he probably gets the job done, but if Fury can weather the storm (quite a big if given Cooney's power) then he might be able to rally back and get a stoppage of his own. He's shown he has the mental resilience to do so.
