Both men in there prime s, more or less. Both losing to King Larry. Can William ss urvive the onslaught of cooney or is the truth to much of a master boxer for gerry?

I think Williams would get KO'd. He was too open to the left hook. Cooney had a very good left hook.
Williams was really good the night he fought Holmes though so he might be able to keep this a battle of jabs for a while and get some rounds in the bag but he'll be slammed with some big left hook soooner or later.

Poor Carl never does well matched up against the big bangers. Must say though in later years did well against morrison and Bruno. Wonder if he could have beaten George in the 90 s?

Carl Williams was very good boxer. Great jab, good skills, speed. But he had bad chin and was open to the left hook. He was dropped early in many fights. I pick Cooney by KO

Holmes was ripe for the picking when Carl Williams met him.. Gerry Cooney fought the REAL Larry Holmes.. And The Truth couldn't stand in the same room with a good left hooker without having an allergic reaction..

Gerry Cooney KO 2 Carl Williams.

It's not out of the question that a motivated and well trained Carl Williams might have outpointed George in a 10 rounder. Even though he was past his best, the truth had some admirable performances in the 90s, albeit inconsistent. I thought he was finished when I saw him drop a decision to Jerry Jones on ESPN around 1992. Not long after he showed up on HBO looking like a totally different man and gave Morrison fits. He had a good wingspan, excellent jab, power in the right, and could rise off the canvas to win a match. I can't favor him against Cooney due to his soft spot for left hooks and for other stylistic reasons. But he had a few tools that might have given old George problems.

Yes can see Carl thumping the jab out against foreman while George just keeps trundling forward. But would have to be eye on the ball through out for that cracking right hand from foreman!

CW was suspectible to left hooks. Tyson in round 1 , Weaver in 2 , Morrison in 8.
Left hook was Cooney's strike weapon. Cooney in 2.

Cooney by 3rd round ko after swallowing most of Carl's jabs in the first two rounds.
