This. Franzese is a fast talker and very charismatic, but he exaggerates a lot and sometimes downright creates bogus stories because he knows a lot of people are gullible. His Conney claim is ridiculous and doesn’t even make sense.

It’s been years since I’ve read the court documents involving Franzese, but I remember his real weekly profit off his gas scam being around $800K per week before having to pay his hire ups and his crew, which is still crazy money, but nowhere close to the inflated numbers he claims on YouTube.

Look, I am not going to call Cooney the greatest fighter of all time ete. But he did fight his heart out vs Holmes that night, Holmes was just better(ATG better), I really can not see how someone can watch that fight and walk away with yep, Cooney took a dive. Holmes did a number on him.

Agreed, but Gerry Cooney was used by his management, they did not properly prepare him for then champion Larry Holmes in 1982. They matched him with ancient fighters who had seen better days. By doing this, they showed a lack of confidence in his abilities as a top contender. He was just a cash cow with a big heart, who looked good abusing elderly fighters.

But that is what happens most often. Was the likes of Johnny Paycheck, Chuck Wepner, Don Cockell, or Pete Rademacher suppose to walk out of there title fights as champions? Cooney was big and selling well. He was drawing fans, he was fun to watch. They saw a big pay day with Larry Holmes as the great white hope and took it. Let's be real here, even with out the Holmes fight, I do not think Cooney was going to step up to the next level or be a ATG. He had heart in his prime and can punch, but you need more than that if you want to be the top fighter in a division for the most part. Perhaps had Holmes not been in the same era, Cooney may of been champ perhaps. who knows? But I think Cooney was going to be as good as he was going to get.

Totally agree, but if you are any kind of management worth your salt, you want your fighter to be successful. As far as Cooney being great if there was no Larry Homes, his management was going to have to face others who were not rest home residence fighters like Ken Norton and Jimmy Young, he would have had to face the likes of Greg Page, Pinklon Thomas, and Terrible Tim Witherspoon. He would have been badly exposed as an average fighter. Look at Jerry Quarry, he was brought up the ladder right, he fought many top fighters. Cooney was just a cash cow, I was not impressed with him fighting elderly fighters, I won $20.00, I easily bet on Larry Holmes. Poor Gerry was used. I know it happens, too many crooks still around. Sugar Ray Leonard was brought along the right way, he still made money for his management team and was a world champion too. The Holmes vs Cooney could never be fixed, he had zero chance to beat Larry Holmes,

The guy has told there was a secret base in Nevada near Area 51 where aliens worked with humans without any evidence.

Cooney would have been a huge draw as champion.

Everybody wanted him to win except Holmes!

He would have been an absolute massive name in sports. Compared to the old all time greats.
And then he'd have lost, more than likely after a couple of defense s.
He certainly wouldn't have being around unbeaten long.
But would have been fun to watch.

This ....to say it was fixed is to suggest that Cooney could actually beat Holmes
