Who punched harder? Of course Wlad is a concussive puncher, but Cooney's punches seemed like the hurt like hell.

hard to say... straight right hand wlad, left hook cooney... close, cooney looked more brutal because he stopped smaller guys than wladimir did. i don't know it is very close

Eddie Gregg 6'5 Phillip Brown 6'3 Ken Norton and Ron Lyle 6'3 John Dennis 6'3. All the people Wlad knocked out were 7'0 300 pounds and every heavyweight in the 70s were 5'0 100 pounds.

Klitschko had the harder right hand for sure.

Now, Klitschko might even have the harder left hook, but Cooney was way more versatile and natural with his. He could dig it to the body with devastating results (broke Lyles rib with one) while Wlad was strictly a head hunter and kind of telegraphed it.

norton was shot and had glass jaw, i doubt that wladimir would have any problem destroying this version of norton in 1 round, lyle was shot and weighed 211 crappy pounds when fought cooney,( this one was not the prime 220 pounder ripped lyle), and philip and eddie who? please...

I might be able to envision Gerry Cooney beating the Pre-Steward version of Klitscko who lost to Corrie Sanders. That Wlad was often careless, too quick to brawl and didn't know how to neutralize an attacker in close.. And Cooney was an extremely hard puncher with fast hands a good left hook and had lots of tenacity in the early rounds. But if we're talking about the Wladimir of 2005 onwards then it's a different ball game. This new rendition of Klitschko was far more cautious and fought to avoid losing rather than to go out and aggressively snatch up a win. His nearly perfect left jab coupled with his safety first approach and newly found survival tactics would make it very difficult for Gerry to get him out early. The longer the fight went on the more Cooney would fade. Gerry wasn't the most durable heavyweight either and Wlad had more snap to his shots than Larry Holmes or Michael Spinks did.

I'd say Wladimir. When he really sits on his shots you can hear and see the impact more than Cooney did.

Lol who cares how good they were? I am saying all guys in the 70's weren't short. Eddie Gregg is no worse than Ray Austin who your overrated joke hero Wladmir fought.

Cooney's hook would be as hard as anything Wlad throws i reckon. He really did have great power in that hook.

dude... what are you talking about? do you have any problem? you are in defensive mode all the time... i never said that the guys from 70s were small.. i said that overall wladimir stopped bigger guys than cooney did, independently of the era

Cooney doesn't even outclass Wladimir in terms of power, none the less overall skill and ability.

Co.oney. His style was built around it.#

wlad could potentially hit harder but isnt skilled enough to do so.
