What evidence is there to suggest that Corbett was a better boxer than Cooper ? Who did he beat to confirm this?

That and the fact that Corbett's WINNING resume is exceedingly thin!

Twice as fast? Based on a couple of seconds of him v Fitz, and him clowning with mug Peter Courtney who has no record as a boxer?

It is, but at least he has one.

    Cooper doesn't at this level.

I said corner might pull Cooper out of fight for risk of long term effects to the skin, or indeed also if eye itself was at risk, but the cut Cooper suffered was on eyebrow so no risk to his eye.

The number of sutures needed to close the cut and amount of blood lost pailed to insignificance compared to say Chuck Wepners cuts.

If Cooper was fighting in Corbetts era, then coagulants like negatan, cauterisation chemicals like silver nitrate and Monsel’s Solution and other devious methods to plug wounds, would have been applied, all that are a big no no today. These were some serious methods used by cutmen from earlier eras, these were often disfiguring, but much more effective than adrenaline solutions and such that are only permitted nowadays.

Blood lost in facial cuts might look horrific, but amount lost is not going to be harmful to their health, just take a look at some of those haemorrhages in MMA fights.

To put it into perspective, if you donate blood that amount is visibly sizeable, but is not a issue for the average citizen to give, now it would take a long time to even lose that amount in facial cuts.

Coopers eye cut vs Ali was more than a typical superficial cut. It was spurting blood.

Well lets look at your statement.
Corbett's best win is over a34 years old fat alcoholic who hadn't fought in nearly 5 years!
His next best win is over a middleweight little Charlie Mitchell.
His other wins are over a 41 years old bareknuckle fighter Jake Kilrain.
Dominick McCaffrey who had won 1 of his last 7 fights , one of his losses being to Jack Dempsey the middleweight! McCaffrey was also a bareknuckler, his record at the time was a mighty 9-5-3!
Corbett's only other wins of any note were over a novice middleweight 3-0-0 Joe Choynski.
    Cooper has wins over;
    Richardson
    Erskine
    London
    Bodell
    Bethea
    Miteff
    Harris
    Folley
    Mildenberger
    Erskine
Those fringe contenders of the late 50's & 60s compare very favourably with Corbett's winning sheet!
Cooper has 27kos ,which is more than the total fights Corbett had!
Sure he got beat but those beating him were a damn sight better than washed up barenuckle fighters eg Patterson,Ali,Johannson,Bugner,Rischer,Folley Bygraves. His other losses were on cuts.
Corbett has the worst record of any man who has held the undisputed heavyweight title!

Well I gotta admit I was Undecided about this clash, but with that post, I think has swayed me to thinking Cooper could definitely do this. Henry could battle, yes if he got cut it could put the Mockers on it, but even when he was bleeding he was still dangerous as hell. In effect Cooper could be one of the best fighters that Corbett had met. I don't think you can rule out Cooper just because he was a bleeder. No, I think Henry has a bloody good shot here.

You make a decent point. But...

If Corbett circles left he can might lose the jab a bit, but you would expect him to tie Corbett up and do some damage in close. Most accounts of Corbett are surprised at the work he does in close, and i expect that this is where Corbett does his most damage.

I expect that Corbett will dominate in this manner and win most of the rounds. The interesting question though, i think, is if Corbett does slip up somewhere in the later rounds (as he did a few times) and actually got caught and dropped cleanly with the same type of left hook that Ali got caught with, Does he actually get up and finish off the fight. I am not so sure that he would and would like to know of what evidence there is which shows Corbett's ability to get up off the canvas and finish off the fight. He was a great front runner though.

Cooper had a penchant for letting a hook go on the break he was very savvy inside.I'm not saying he wins this but dismissing him out of hand is not realistic and severely underates both his boxing and hitting abilities.
Corbett has a pretty dire resume for a world heavyweight champion, his rep relies heavily on gallant losing efforts , never a good sign imo.The fact that he was kod by one shot to the body from a middleweight ,however hard hitting he may have been ,should also be factored in here .
Corbett has to win by tko [cuts, ] or on points,if there is a ko it will be Gentleman Jim having ten counted over him.
