This content is protected : Fitzsimmons and Corbett come along in the eras, and peak at the same time as the following 15 heavyweights: Sullivan Jeffries Johnson Dempsey Tunney Louis Marciano Liston Ali Frazier Foreman Holmes Tyson Holyfield Lewis [NOTE: I made a mistake in my initial post, instead of typing 'Lewis' I made a second entry for 'Holmes'. This is why JANITOR (post #2) does not have a 'Lewis' response. My apologies.). Fitzsimmons and Corbett's potentials (for skill, conditioning, size, ect.) are developed, according to the opportunities of each opponents time, in analogy to how Fitzsimmons and Corbett developed according to the opportunity of their own time. With regard to Lewis, that is one case where I would give Fitzsimmons a better chance. Lewis is perhaps the worst fighter in history for a small slick technical boxer to take on. Corbett would just find himself on the end of the jab all night. The way I figure it, the only way either one of them beats him is by knockout and that is Fitz's game.
I consider any wins, by Corbett or Fitzsimmons against these guys, upsets. Sullivan: Actually, I think Fitzsimmons has the better chance here. Jeffries: Corbett has the best chance, IMO. Johnson: Corbett has the best chance here, too, IMO. Dempsey: Fitzsimmons has the best chance, IMO. Tunney: Corbett has the best chance, IMO. Louis: Corbett has the best chance, IMO. Marciano: Fitzsimmons has the best chance, IMO. Liston: Corbett has the best chance, IMO. Ali: Corbett has the best chance, IMO. Frazier: Fitzsimmons has the best chance, IMO. Foreman: Corbett has the best chance, IMO. Holmes: Corbett has the best chance, IMO. Tyson: Fitzsimmons has the best chance, IMO. Holyfield: Corbett has the best chance, IMO. Lewis: Fitzsimmons has the best chance, IMO.
