In the Loughran vs. Toney and Tunney vs. Toney threads, many favoured the formers. With the context of Tunney and Loughran’s praises of everyone’s favourite thong wearer, does Toney become a victim of the rear uppercut of doom?
He has just as big of a frame as Toney. Slightly bigger actually, if they are both in top shape. He is fleet of foot, and, wouldn't just wade in and let Toney counter him up close. It would be a chess match. And, for all of Toney's strengths, fast feet isn't one of them.
Very good points made, I’d be surprised if Corbett tried being the first one to open up an exchange at all. Seems like he would be feinting and constantly on the move and trying to slap Toney whenever he made a mistake rather than risk making one himself.
lol He cops a lot but if he was alive Corbett could stuff his thong down 99% of this boards throat… Have some respect for the dinosaur era fighters, those were brutal men… clad in thongs… sometimes.
If he is as good as Tunney thinks then it’ll be a good bout but I have no real film to judge… the shorter rounds are better for Jim, didn’t like them much in his time and he was clever, fast and tough as a boot… the part I’d be most interested in is absolutely the build up given even by the 1800s standards Corbett was a frothing mad racist lol and Toney will have a lot to say… I favour Tunney to beat Toney, I don’t assume Corbett is that good but if he’s close… it’s an odd and rare instance of the more modern fighter having the “classical” career Toney is more seasoned, better schooled, climbed the ladder and had the better head for a championship distance lol.
