I see this as a pretty intriguing fight here. Mainly because of the fact the it is only gonna be Guillermo's 7th pro fight. But I respect that, because when you have a former amateur legend who is hyped as much as this guy is, why wait 5,6,7 years to put him in with a legit, not washed up fighter. With that being said, Cordoba is a very solid super bantam, with quality rounds under his belt. And though he was ko'd by the less than stellar Dune (which I still can't believe) I think his chin will hold up fine in this one. Obviously Guillermo's team knows what they're doing by putting him in with Ricardo, but at least theres a good chance they're underestimating what he will bring come fight night. Lets not forget Cordoba is currently the last man to beat the streaking Caballero. Either way, My gut says, Rigondeaux 116-112 Cordoba. Thoughts.
I believe Rigo should win,but its gonna be a test to define where he belongs. the way he looks in this fight will define his inmediate future. If he wins,i think he should rank high enough to go for the belt.
I agree, I think if Rigo wins a close Md/Sd, his team will probably have him fight some more Arce types to tweak his skillset.
Rigo can win an easy descision, some of you are thinking its gonna be close and i doubt it. If cordorba comes in the best he has ever been or somehow really improves his boxing ability which isnt going to happen all of a sudden, but lets say he does and comes in the best hes ever been at best he will lose a 115-113 decision. Thats as close as he can get it and its unlikely. The only reason why i dont think rigo knocks him out is im not sure rigo has the aggresivness and fights way too calm.
Cordoba is a PERFECT style for a measured counterpuncher like Rigondeaux. Rigo SHOULD knock him out - at some point, Cordoba will walk straight into one of Rigo's punches. And I'm not nearly as high on Rigo as most. I think he'd struggle a lot more with a different style of fighter, but both Cordoba and Luis Concepcion are perfect for his style.
Rigo has yet to fight a southpaw as a pro to my knowledge, and usually southpaws dont shine against each other. I think it will be interesting. Cordoba is a pretty good rangier boxer and hes is pretty sound defensively. I can see him having problems with Rigos precision and speed, but I think his movement and jab will negate a lot of that. Rigo obviously has the pedegree but he doesnt have the pro experience that Cordoba has. A big part of how this fight will go down is up to Cordoba. He needs to know that he is the more experienced pro and he needs to fight like it. Rigo waits a lot to counter and he fights in spots. Cordoba will have to douple up on the jab a lot and use a lot of lateral movement. He needs to put his punches toghether and get the hell out of the way. I expect Cordoba to throw 2x as many punches, but Rigo to throw the better ones in a close fight that can be scored differently depending on how you see it.
I agree with Brickhaus. this is a good "step up" on paper, but if a fan knows these two fighters, it should be a pretty easy/impressive night for Rigo
the other factor is how Rigo will cope with staying healthy at 122..somehow his bodyframe will ask to go up to FW at 29 yrs old
I'm surprised as many expect an easy nights work for Rigo. I highly doubt he's just gonna get past Cordoba with 0 challenge. I get that Rigo is one of the greatest amateurs ever, but as weve seen many times in the past, things can change in the pro's. I think I'm just a little skeptical of this guy's hype is all. If he masscres Cordoba, then he is probably as good as most think.
