Cormier's kidneys shut down trying to make 211 in the Olympics. That's why he fights at HW because he can't cut weight anymore.

As for him beating Jones, his only career accomplishment in MMA was almost equaled by Mike Kyle. Bigfoot was grossly overrated after he beat Fedor. We won't know how good Cormier is until he fights Barnett.

 

Cormier at 205 is a man enough to take on Jones. He has the striking and wrestling. Same as Cain.

 

Cormier may well die making 205. He's what, 240 with a gut?

I'd still like to see him at a strong and ripped 215/220. I guess he could cut, but given his history would he want to take the risk?

 

The body carries crazy fat. I'm 13 stone but if I was to be cut I'd be 11 stone, if I was to fight I'd probably go to lower. You would never look at me and think I'm remotely fat.

Nevertheless, Cormier said if Coker asked he could go to 205. If he joins the UFC and Cain became champ agian then it would be interesting to see what he does.

 

True. But he looks a naturally stocky bloke. Think he'd be a solid 220lber, but as I say, he struggled in the Olympics, years ago. I think he should stay where he is, even if he does win the belt back I'm not sold on Velasquez holding it for long.

 

I agree he does look like a built bloke but even that is suprising when guys lose the weight. I'm a well set guy but if I really lose weight I think I could my waist to 28-30 with 50 inch shoulders. It is all deceiving. Look at Fedor. There is that photo where he is built but I know he could make 205, no matter what anyone tells me.

I guess Cormier could make 205 but he probably has some medical issue. Some people aren't fat, its a genuine issue. Don Cockell used to have that issue.

Velasquez is quality, there is alot of evolving that can be done. JDS is a stud. Overeem failed a drug test to avoid him :yep

 

Cormier wouldn't be willing to give up the McDonalds to ever consider moving down.

 

What's this obsession with HW's making 205 to fight Jones kinghaye? It's getting bizare. Plenty of good fights for Cormier at his own weight

 

This thread should have ended with Thom's post. Cormier was forced out of the olympics bcause he couldn't cut down to 211Ibs. His kidneys simply can't take the punishment. End of Story!

 

Barnet v Cormier is a great fight, and why would JDS cut weight to fight...Im just going to shut up
