    Superfeather Champ with 2 defenses.

    45-7 record.

Fought most of the top Superfeathers / Ltweights of the
    early & mid-80's.

Tough, tough man. I read that he began his career as more of a boxer, cautious type, and I don't know if this is true, but I read it. Apparently, he was to fight Bazooka Limon in LA shortly after Johnny Owen was killed fighting Lupe Pintor. Limon supposedly said that the Mexican fighters had decided to kill all the UK fighters that came to LA; Boza-Edwards decided that, if he were to be killed, he'd go down fighting. And he became one of the memorable action fighters.

    A Great Warrior

    Cornelius Boza,

Was the 1976 pre-Olympic Featherweight Gold Medal favorite.

Unfortunately, the African Union Nations 'boycotted' the Olympics.

Was an excellent boxer, who went to a 'wide-open aggressive style' after scoring
a bunch of early 'easy' wins.

    Was 'one exciting fighter'.

One of my early favorites. He, along with Chacon, Limon, and Navarette, all blended that great mixture of aggression and vulnerability that made the junior-lightweights such a fun divison in the early 80's.

I remember one of Boza Edwards early bouts.

    January 1979

On the undercard of the Kallie Knoetzee vs. Bill Sharkey 'Heavyweight Bout' in Miami Beach (CBS-TV fight).

    Boza-Edwards 16-1-0 (13 KO's) took on local Florida 'Super Featherweight', Frankie 'Preacherman' Moultrie 15-3-0 (9 KO's).

It was a good fight, with both boys banging away for '8-Rounds'. When the decision was originally announced,
the fight was 'awarded' to 'the local fighter' Frankie Moultrie by a 'Majority-Decision'.

Well, Mickey Duff (Boza's Manager) went 'ballistic', and went to the State Boxing Commission representative at ringside,
    demanding to see the 'scorecards'.

After a review, Mickey Duff was correct, as the round point totals were incorrectly tabulated on 'two' of the 'scorecards', awarding Frankie Moultrie an 8-Round Majority Decision.

After a proper tabulation, Boza Edwards was 'correctly' awarded an 8-Round Decision.

That's such a hard fight to score. Every time I score it, it's different.

Yes Ol Boza was a very good technician when starting out in the Uk as i recall his welcome to america was to be pitched in with the great Alexis Arguello, at Lightweight, the young Boza had no chance of outboxing Alexis, so went to war
and his fierce opporsition took Alexis and the crowd by surprise, he gave Alexis a real tussle before Alexis's great experiance told, but by then Boza had introduced himself to the US fans as a Fan Friendly crowd pleaser, with a hint of class behind the zest for battle...

Boza's fight with Bazooka Limon exemplified his mentality, When he boxed Rafael
and used his skills, he was comfortably on top, but wanted to dominate the champion and not steal the title in a tactical chess-match, It no doubt made a potentially easier job harder, But Boza was happy to beat a man at his own game...

Later in his career a few camps thought Ol Boza the warhorse was ready for the taking and matched their young guns with him...they found out that Boza still had a Lions heart...and those hidden Skills could sometimes make an appearance, Guy Villegas gave Boza a war...it was a great effort from Guy, But Boza soaked it up then took out Guy in a vicious manner..(around the 7th ? as i recall ) and John the Heat Verdrosa was being manoeuvred onto bigger and better things...using Boza as a name stepping stone was a bad idea, Like stepping on a fistic Mine..Boza took him to School and wrapped the School Gates around him in Jig Time, The Heat was extinguished after that..

Along with Frank Flecther and Saad Muhammed, Boza was a Fan Favourite of the time and with good reason, Its a pleasure to look back at his past matches,

He's memorable as an action fighter for sure. He might not beat a lot of ATGs, but he would certainly be competitive with anyone.

Agreed Salsanchezfan, the Chacon rematch is tricky to score, but everytime I watch it I give Boza the edge by a hair.

Boza fought a friend of mine, Gary Gamble, on NBC Sportsworld and stopped him in five. He fought a lot of contenders on short notice, but considers his fight with Boza his greatest honor in boxing. I don't know that Edwards was the highest level of HOF'er in true accomplishments, but he is treated as such for his fighting heart and personal dignity and probably deserves to receive such.

Superb fighter, could have been even better if he brawled less.
