Boza was a tall, sharp-boxing southpaw who loved a scrap and became hugely popular in the States for his desire to go to war. He made his name when Duff put him in with reigning world super-featherweight champion Alexis Arguello in the States in 1980 and the gamble paid off - Alexis came through but Boza gave him hell and US television wanted more. When Arguello moved up to lightweight, Boza won the world super-featherweight title with a brilliant 15-round decision over Bazooka Limon in California in 1981, dropping the iron-jawed Limon in the process. His reign was brief but included a thrilling late stoppage of Bobby Chacon, again in the States. He forced his way back into contention, only to lose to Chacon in another thriller for the world title. Chacon sealed his victory with a knockdown in the last round.
Boza moved up to lightweight and continued to show his worth and secured two more cracks at a world title but both Hector Camacho and Jose Luis Ramirez denied him. Duff then retired him. Boza lives in the States but is British; there was no British super-featherweight title in his day but he picked up the European title at the weight.

Once Idi Amin's rign of terror was over, everything was OK for Boza but he was settled here and then in the States. He married an English girl, who died tragically young, but remarried and lives in Florida. Boza was the Chico Corrales of the 1980s and here he is quite recently with Chacon.

He boxed for several years at the Fitzroy Lodge, entering the ABA champs two or three times.

    Adios.
