Maybe not the top of the division, but Bundrage's last 10 fights dating back to 2008 are against solid middle tier contenders and name-opponent-fringe-contenders at JMW and last night, 10/12/14, just scooped up a title from Carlos Molina, a top 5 JMW for years now. Hardcore fans will recognize every name on here, spare perhaps one, while even casuals will recognize probably all of them except a couple as well. And his overall results have been positive without question. Molina shocker, Zaurbek KO, and the Powell rematch redemption give specifically nice feathers in his cap. I think it is safe to say that Bundrage, who has often been cited among being one of the worst titlists in history or worst at the time he held the belt etc. etc. has been underrated by many. People don't like his fights as they have at times lacked quality action to say the least and don't like to rate him because he is as far from textbook or disciplined as possible. But he made it further than his talent should have let him go. Respect to Bundrage, who has compiled a solid resume to be proud of (actually better than some who will get more discussion from casuals) and having been a rare fighter to disprove the critics, of which he has had many. A career overachiever for sure. And that's a good thing to be... Cornelius Bundrage, 34-5-0-1 w/ 19 KO's, two time IBF JMW titlist Last 10 fights, each at 154 pound limit (7-2-0-1 record): 2008- W UD10 Kassim Ouma 2008- L SD10 Grady Brewer 2008- W TKO5 Zaurbek Baysangurov 2009- NC3 Yuri Foreman 2010- W TKO5 Cory Spinks; won Spinks' IBF title 2011- W UD12 Sechew Powell II; Bundrages' 1st IBF defense 2012- W TKO7 Cory Spinks II; Bundrage's 2nd IBF defense 2013- L MD12 Ishe Smith; lost IBF title 2014- W UD12 Joey Hernandez 2014- W UD12 Carlos Molina; won Molinas' IBF title He faced Zaurbek in Germany and Molina in Mexico. He challenged for Spinks' title in his hometown of Missouri and the only of these ten matches to be held in Bundrages' hometown of Detroit was his disappointing loss to Ishe. I'm curious... What do you think of his feats? Who would you like to see him defend his title against at JMW? How do you think he does against the contenders in the division? Is there anyone out there who stands by dramatic claims that he is among the worst title holders ever, or even in the recent half decade? I'm not high at all on his chances to retain his belt if he fights a legit top 15 contender, but most people would have picked Molina to beat all but a couple fighters in the division, so we'll see...
K9 is at the fringe world class level. He's pretty much the classic case of right timing for both instances in which he won the title. I think that there are a fair number of fighters that would beat him in the 147-160 range. That being said, the guy has heart and deserves credit for perseverance. Even though he is very limited, he is far from one of the worst champions ever.
I don't understand why people disrespects him but then praises guys who won title because of big promotion companies behind them. Bundrage came much harder way. Now it was second time when Bundrage against all odds beat defending champion so gotta give him him respect. And Molina isn't bum, he had a draw with Lara as we know(!!) and gave hell to Kirkland but last night he was totally dominated. Well done K9 :bbb
Shouldn't of won some of his fights but finds away, looks more like a crim than a fighter, true underdog, doesn't get enough media attention....
