I just watched this fight for the first time in years and I have to say, this is one of the most exiciting gold medal matches that I can remember. This is when Leon was still in the Marines and away from all the distractions/vices that lead to his downfall. He was a heavy underdog going into this fight and took it to Soria who was regarded as the better boxer and the odds on favorite for the gold. I was only a year old when this fight took place. I would have loved to have watched that unbealivable USA team compete in 76'. This content is protected
Leon at his sober and snarling best! He willed himself to victory in that fight. Walked through all of those Eastern European and Cubans like a man with zero ****s to give.
That right hand was a monster! He had a really good right uppercut as well. This fight was at 178, can you imagine if he would have been able to make 175 as a pro? He really was a ferocious fighter in his younger days.
