I feel queasy even asking this question, since I was and always will be a massive Chico fan, but it's on my mind this week and I've forgotten what the general consensus was on here. Hopefully the poll covers all the bases.
A little. I mean, personally, I think Corrales would get stopped without the extra time. I was really happy when Chico won though. Best fight ever.
I have never heard a crowd, in any sport, make the noise you hear when Weeks steps in to stop it. I could hear that a thousand times, and I'd still get a chill down my spine. I truly envy anyone who watched that fight live.
Spitting out the mouthpiece was gamesmanship and he got a point deducted for it, so if anything it added to the drama even more. I remember watching it like damn, he is delaying the inevitable, then all of a sudden he lands and Castillo's eyes glaze over, a ****ing classic.
The problem is he did it before getting dropped as well, I think it was a bit un fair to Castillo to be honest he had his man down twice and the hurt fighter got to recover doing this.... Love Chico however I think he got away with a fast one in that fight, its okay though Castillo showed him how you fight fire with fire in the rematch
This spitting mouth piece excuse as the reason Corrales tko Castillo. Man no offense ppl but shut up. Corrales got deducted a point for it. And beside ppl, didn't Frietas spit his mouth piece after Corrales knock him down twice? Did it help Frietas? No cause After he was knockdown again, he quit.
That's almost the bottom line for me on this one. Would it have been "better" if he hadn't essentially bought himself a long count? Sure. Would almost any mortal on earth actually still be thinking he could win the fight at that point? No. It's basically Gatti rising from the dead in the ninth round of Ward I, except after even more physical punishment. I do wish Weeks had been able to give Castillo a count, but the rules are the rules.
I was confused/amazed at the result. But Corrales got too much time. In such a close grueling fight, it mattered.
if you were in Castillos position how would you view it? would you feel that the point deduction was good enough>? if you say yes your a mother ****ing liar
I remember this fight in Vegas. I figured it would be a yawner and the venue was filled even less than Pac-Diaz. I had no vested interest in either fighter. Boy was I wrong. How can Corrales's victory be tarnished. The guy is dead. People remember the standing knockout more than spitting out the mouthpiece.
