http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=imZaiGJgbsw&NR=1 Is there ANY doubt that Castillo would have stopped Corrales if it were not for him spitting his mouthpiece out?
This thread has nothing to do with Chico's death. I guess you're going to post these messages in any thread about PBF, Casamayor or Castillo or anyone else Chico fought? We're talking about one fight here. If I want to start a thread about Salvidor Sanchez, you better believe I have the right to do so. But when? In 6 months? In a year? In 50 years? When can we talk about someone's life?
Chico spitting out his mouthpiece is the ONLY reason why he won this fight. The sooner people deal with FACTS the better. :yep
I would agree but Chico gave no indication he was out on his feet. He was still alert and lucid and even had the bearings to protest the point being taken away for the spitting of the mouthpiece. Yeah Chico was in trouble, but not that much trouble considering he still had enough left in the tank to keep throwing bombs, all which landed on Castillo's square jaw. Corrales buying a few extra seconds wasn't gonna change the fact that Castillo thought he had him, so he goes in for the kill and leaves himself wide open for left hooks and right hands which proved to be his undoing against the ropes. That's why Corrales won this fight...he still carried his power into the 10th and took advantage of Castillo's recklessness, landed 4 awesome power punches and ended it with a barrage.
He may very well have been stopped if not for the clever mouthpiece manuever, but there is a big difference in bending rules and breaking rules. There's also a difference between bending rules in a way that helps you rather than something that hurts the other fighter. Such as head butting, low blows, elbows and such. It's almost honorable in my oppinion to bend a rule thats gonna give you more time to fight and have a chance of winning the fight. Remember just because he bought himself some time did not mean he was gonna K.O Castillo. They still had to fight after that. So yes he did bend the rules. But the man was trying to do what he had to do to win. And I'm not saying that to honor the dead. I say the same about Mosley in the Cotto fight. Mosley started to use some questionable tactics. a couple of punches behind the head and he got some nice shoulders in there too. But that was a 36 year old fighter trying to pull one out against a young strong fighter that alot of guys quit against. With that being said another thing to remeember is that Corrales still could have cleared his head and knocked Castillo the F#@& out for all we know.
Exactly. This is one of the best rounds in boxing history - and it was Corrales spitting his mouthpiece out that made it so. And yet boxing fans COMPLAIN about this?? Unbelievable!! atsch
Everybody talks about the mouthpiece. But, both guys still had to fight. If you want to blame anyone, blame Castillo for taking his foot of the pedal. He got careless and he got caught.
Freitas spit his mouthpiece in the Corrales fight but that didnt help him. Surely what Corrales did wasnt fair but to say that if he didnt spit it out he would have been knocked out is ridiculous.
The 10th round of Castillo/Corrales 1 was THE most dramatic round of boxing I've ever seen. Utterly insane excitement. Yes, Corrales did bend the rules, but he didn't go on to survive, he went on to ktfo Castillo in a bigger turnaround than even Rocky managed through 6 films. Nothing is taken away from Castillo for losing that fight. It made them both legends.
