Is there anything in it? I've often thought there is a relationship between extraordinary power and suspect chins. There are probably logical explanations that can discount the theory, the most obvious being tactics however I think it still holds some substance :think

Quick list off the top of my head

    Maccarinelli
    Haye
    Price
    Wladimir
    Kirkland
    Lee
    Bellew
    Diaz
    Castillo
    Sillakh
    Hearns
    Patterson
    Jones Jnr
    Louis
    Naz

Hardly. A weak chin doesn't entail huge punching power nor vice versa. In fact, most boxers won't have either which is why we never hear of them. However, popular boxers tend to have at least one of these two qualities.

    I wouldn't say so.

You've got a number of with one-punch KO power who had solid chins.

    Michael Spinks (at LHW)
    Mike Tyson
    Bob Foster (at LHW)
    Sugar Ray Robinson
    Alexis Arguello
    David Tua

Then you have guys with average/okay chins who had one-punch power, like Julian Jackson, Lennox Lewis, Edwin Rosario.

Naz didn't have a weak chin. The KDs he suffered were usually because of balance, although I think he may have been hurt by Daniel Alicea. His chin was alright. Hearns's chin was average...he got more chinny once he got to 160.

Absolutely, Patterson was essentially a Cruiserweight going up against one of the hardest punchers in the history of the division. His chin wasn't that bad. Most of his knockdowns were caused by bad balance.

:good Easy answer . Commiting to a punch leaves you wide open for counters . So to swing for the homerun shot simply puts you and the oponent at risk to getting koed . :deal

I just don't see any correlation. The most popular reason a boxer has a good chin is because they are born with it and some strength training to the legs and neck will also help. Sure their have been many hard hitters who have weak chin, but you can also find alot that had average to good chin.

Come to thinks of it, one interesting correlation would be the strength training for the legs can be improve both punching power and chin.

As others have said, there are enough cases of great power and great chins to offset the examples you offered.

I think the reason many heavy hitters get stopped so often is that they have less incentive to develop good technique. They may tend to get more over-eager so they wind up getting knocked out.

The Prince had an absolutely solid chin. Patterson, Castillo and Haye also don't have particularly weak chins.

These fighters are able to rise abnormally high because they have a talent that is so overwhelming it can hide major deficiencies. Same as speedy fast fighters having **** fundamental technique. They are able to use a natural gift to over come that.

It's actually the opposite of correlation. There is no connection between KO power and weak chins at all, which means that punchers range across the full spectrum of punch resistance.
