Both these guys were hard hitting southpaws who gave some of the respective champions of their eras (the Klitschkos and Wilder) absolute hell and their fights would in many ways would be defining moments for all three of these significant champions. With very tricky styles, both these men proved highly destructive throughout their careers accumulating a combined 59 stoppages.

Who would win a hypothetical head to head? Sanders from the Klitschko fights or Luis Ortiz from the first Wilder fight?

I think it would be highly competitive and Ortiz would have a real chance. I don’t think he has the durability to withstand Sanders power, or the mobility to avoid it. Same goes for Sanders though. It’s a real toss up for me but I lean towards 2003 Sanders based on this absolute destruction of Wlad and the war he gave Vitali.

Sanders has a couple of top-tier wins. I'm not sure Ortiz does. He's a good boxer, with good power and excellent counter-punching but despite his frame seems a bit chinny (maybe age-related).
I'd favor Sanders as I think he's probably the bigger puncher of the two although Ortiz might be a bit more well-rounded.

Sanders didnt take his talent too seriously. Imagine him in excellent conditioning. Could be dangerous the whole fight instead of just the first couple of rounds.

He could have been even more of a powerhouse, I always thought he never quite reached his potential.

Yeah. Rahman beat Corrie. To be honest, of they hadn't fought I'd pick Corrie. So Corrie is a bit of a weird fighter. Very dangerous but would not surprise me if Ortiz beat him.

Good fight, Sanders was more powerful and had great handspeed while Ortiz is the better technician, counter puncher and can also bang. Both aren't the most durable.

50/50, can't pick a winner confidently. KO before 6 rounds either way.

I agree, I would give Ortiz a solid chance in this one especially given his power.

Probably lean towards Ortiz. Sanders was too inconsistent.

Sanders was inconsistent, but he was also a legit contender who could (and did) upset some serious fighters.

Ortiz by contrast is much less proven, with a resume that doesn't suggest he was ever a contender.

    Sanders would win this.

Sanders’s inconsistency was his biggest weakness and I think against a guy like Ortiz it could cost him. I still think on their respective days Sanders would win. It’s a tough one to call.

I think Ortiz was a legit contender from 2015-2019 and he showed this in the Jennings and first Wilder fights. He had excellent power and all round very well rounded fundamentals. While I tend to lean towards Sanders in this one, given what Rahman did to him I would simply not write off Ortiz in a hypothetical match up.
