What a shame that Wlad isn't so obsessed with Sanders like Vitaly with Lennox. This rematch would be definitely sold-out
But this was the one loss where he really got his ass handed to him. HE was actually the heavy bag that night, not the other way around. The sad part is that this loss also created the Wlad that exists today. EDIT: Wlad was a terminator in there before Sanders. I actually thought he'd have a shot at taking Lewis before I found out about his tendency to unravel when he gets hit.
And Lennox called him "The Sniper". Have some of his fights @ on dvd bought off of Ebay. Had good movement and fast feet 2 go along with the handspeed and power. What a waste!
Sanders could've been much bigger given proper dedication. One thing that could've changed his reputation was out of his hand though: Vitali's chin! I have absolutely no idea how the hell Vitali was able to take that dead accurate, picture perfect counter left of Sanders. That shot is up there with the hardest HW punches of the sport and rocked Vitali badly, but any other HW would've been knocked out cold. I think Sanders never had proper management nor a professional US/European based promoter next to him. Certainly a waste of talent, would have been interesting to see where this guy could have gone with his boxing career.
I always enjoyed watching Sanders' fights. I especially appreciate how he made both Klitschkos do the robot dance.
LMFAO. OK. I think I might have said this in another thread, but here goes. Corrie Sanders is the biggest waste of pure raw and unadulterated talent in the history . Had he been discovered at a tender age like Mike was, we might have never heard of Lennox Lewis, Hasim Rahman or Riddock Bowe. Sander had more power, speed, and chin than any of those guys, and I think he trained like 4 hours between his fights. If Sanders was right from the start, he might have been the GOAT! But alas, if you don't care about winning, you aint gonna win.
You are absolutly right. That was the hardest shot that Vitaly had to take ever. The uppercut by Lewis is overrated in that aspect. The straight left hand as a counter was Sanders money shot. Somehow Vitaly could take it.
Incredible talent, and he gets mad credit for the Klit win. But he made the choice not to train, so when all is said and done, is is a notable WBO champion with one win over a great fighter, and not much else to show for his career.
Another ten seconds or so and Corrie would have had a 2nd round and a 1st round KO of both brothers - while training on donuts, beer, and rounds of golf. He puts the Klitschkos in their proper athletic perspective - large but hardly extraordinary. Horrible era at the moment - especially relative to the number of quality large sized athletes on the earth.
Yes, probably the worst underachiever in this time of a host of underachievers. And yet, in spite of his lackadaisical approach, superstardom was right in front of him when he hit Vitaly; having felled both Klitschkos would have assured him of an indelible spot in heavyweight history. The Vitali fight was a real war for a few rounds. Wladimir offered Sanders the rematch, but he passed. Perhaps he didn't believe in lightning striking twice.
