A couple months ago I ordered a Corrie Sanders boxset off of ebay. I've grown to like Sanders style. It seems Corrie was a fast starter and liked to test his opponents chin, if they could survive his power like a Ross Puritty for example Corrie proved to be a capable boxer. I loved his upset over Wlad in 2003 which was voted upset of the year, it's too bad that he didn't he didn't dedicate himself to boxing unlike his countryman Frans Botha, who Corrie beat 3 times in the amatuers. who knows what could have happened. He definitely had a fan friendly style, and as far as his power he was a tall southpaw, who was very fast, and really put his weight into his punches.
I like the Sniper. I enjoyed watching him best during his earlier prospect days. He had good footwork, very fast hands, and great power. Shame he wasn’t handled better. I think he could have beaten a lot of good heavies in his time.
As a klitschko fan I am a huge fan of Sanders. He was extremely talented-great power, fast hands, great footwork, to go a long with ring generalship/IQ. The only problem with Corrie is that he never put the dam effort in to gym/training. He never really cared for boxing, golf, rather then boxing was his true love... If he had that passion and desire for boxing, with his size and talent the sky was the limit. I truly believe, which may sound asinine to some, he would've of been an ATG in the HW division. Wonderful thread-R.I.P champ!
He was an underappreciated fighter and I'm a Vitali fan, I like Wlad too, but I prefer Vitali of the two brothers.
Excellent fighter that had good chance to beat any modern fighter. Was one punch away from defeating Rahman. Had Vitali seriously hurt and defeated Wlad. Highly Competitive at top level against modern heavies. Dangerous southpaw that could have a chance to beat any heavy including a Lewis, Joshua or Fury. He’d demolish wilder.
A could-have been great along with Ike, Page, Thomas, Tucker, Witherspoon, and a few others. Got his hands on a belt, and I think we all admire that he died a real man. RIP, brother.
He sometimes used a very under rated punch----a nasty right hook from a southpaw. Right there with Hagler and Moorer's. And he could throw it to the body or head also. Very very difficult for opponents to get sparring for that kind of thing. It was fast also and most opponents were always looking for that straight left dart instead. 2 handed power which is seldom seen in the division. I am hardly Volbrecht's biggest admirer & would have liked someone else there and worked on his jab and that right hook some more. A little polishing was needed and sign with DKP or Arum and not bother with Kushner during all those years of undercard bouts.
Sanders was stuck with a 2nd rate trainer and a 3rd rate promoter. He was however unique talent with very fast hands, top end power and for his time was the only big southpaw in history with world class gifts at heavyweight.
