    He wouldn't of beat Frazier!

Frazier was a born fighter and if Frazier went down as he may well against someone like Sanders he'd of got up and took Sanders into deep water.

vs Norton I think he wins 3 outta 10. Against Lyle I think he wins 4. Quarry 5 (50/50) Shavers 7.

Ali, Foreman, Frazier and Holmes was in a different league.

    And?

Michael Moorer (also a fast southpaw) is also much better than all those fighters (and Sanders himself) yet couldn't beat an old, fat Foreman.

All those fighters you mentioned were D level, c level at a stretch.

    Sanders 6'4, 77 inch reach.
Tubbs 6'3, (The guy who kicked Sanders ass)
    Rahman 6'2, 82 inch reach.

    Ali 6'3, 78 inch reach.
    Frazier 5'11, 73 inch reach.
    Foreman 6'3, 79 inch reach.
    Young 6'2,
    Holmes 6'3, 81 inch reach.
    Lyle 6'3, 73 inch reach.
    Norton 6'3, 80 inch reach.

Sanders would get his ass whooped in the 70s, just like he did, in real life, in his own era when he stepped up.

The guys in the 70s were around the same size as Sanders and the guys who DID kick Sanders ass.

The guy had a powerful left hand. I'd have to say that Sanders packed a harder left hand than Adonis Stevenson. Sanders blasted Wlad out of the ring and shook iron chinned Vitali down to his boots.

    This thread is absolute nonsense.

There is no way, no how that Sanders wins a title. Or becomes a top contender. A 50 year old Foreman was knocking out men of his quality left and right. He did nothing, aside from exposing Wladimir's jaw. Nothing. He lost to Hasim Rahman. And Nate Tubbs. He was not "bigger" than Foreman. Or Ali. Or Lyle. He was a tub of lard at 220+. His best weight was 210-215.

This is reaching borderline delusional levels.

As delusional as Spinks actually winning the title from the GOAT?

Or Ali being close to even money betting wise vs Holmes going into that fight?

People have a weird complex when it comes to anything Ali touched. Take him out of the picture and the 70's isn't remembered nearly as fondly.

Joe was also done for the majority of the decade, but you'd swear he was primed for it whenever these threads pop up.

Ugh, I guess if you need to use a borderline shot version of Ali to make a point, then yes, Sanders might win a title, but he'd lose it in a heartbeat. I say might because that version of Ali was still relatively solid and Spinks was an off-night.

The overall point being the man was a complete journeyman during his heyday and him exposing Wladimir does nothing to change that. Larry Holmes and George Foreman of the 90's would have beaten him, they're more proven against a better pack of fighters. Foreman beat a much better, much more fit, and much more skilled southpaw in Michael Moorer as a pensioner. Holmes took Mercer to boxing school. You think Sanders is better than Moorer? Or Mercer? Please.

I have no qualms about Corrie being a contender. I think he could land a title shot, sure. But to say he'd be a top conteder is wrong. To think he'd be champion for anything more other than a shock upset and instant loss is wrong. And to think he could clean up the divison as some have suggested is demented.

Top contenders of the 70s were guys like Jimmy Young, Ernie Shavers, Duanne Bobbick, Ron Lyle, James Quick and JamesTillis.

Your delusional if you think Sanders couldn't beat at least half of these guys.

James Quick and James Tillis are the same person and neither was a top contender in the 70's. You're thinking the 80's.

He'd beat Bobbick. Young outboxes him and Lyle outslugs him. Shavers lays him out.

Sanders had durability and stamina problems. He was always going to come up short against the best fighters, but on the other hand he had fast hands, good skills and a stiff left hand. Ergo he had the potential to beat some big names.

He loses to Ali and Foreman, no doubt about it in my mind. He could beat or lose to Frazier just as easily. I can see him upsetting Norton, but he'd need to get Norton out of there inside 4 or else he loses.

Sanders was a big fast heavyweight that was a southpaw. A good athlete. I think he fares well in the 70's but being the under achiever he was would probably lose a fight you would expect him to win.
He destroyed blown up heavies from smaller divisions. He was 41-4 losing competitive matches to Vitali and Rahman and losing his final fight past prime. The Tubbs match is a stain. He did destroy Wlad. Shame he didn't fight many more credible heavies.
Call me crazy but I think he beats Norton.
