Sanders used to be a cop in Johannesburg and I would be surprised if he didn't try to take action when a party he was attending was stormed by armed gangsters. I am certain he went down swinging like a hero, looks like he gave his life in order to protect others.

Ya its completely ****ing ******ed. Probably not very much. But in South Africa.....Not very much might be enough of an insentive to do it. The place is ****ed. I don't want to be a dick to a country but it seems like SA badly needs to clean its **** up. I've done a lot of travelling and have been to many places that are far more poor then south africa but they have better rule of law because people policed themselves. It doesn't seem like that happens very much in SA.

Apparently some thugs robbed the resterant and shot him in the process of doing so. No one really knows more details then that. I imagine the whole story will come out soon.

He was damn near close to beating Rahman as well.

And he was gutsy against Vitaly.

RIP Corrie, you can rest knowing you're the one everyone remembers, not the other guy. (Corey Sanders) :deal

Good fighter. I loved his emotions during the Wlad fight.

Very sad that Corrie passed away :(

There's plenty of credible websites that have confirmed his death but not too many with good details. This is probably the story with the most information that I've found. I don't know much about the source website. Its called sports 24 or something like that.

Pretoria - Former SA heavyweight boxing champion Corrie Sanders has been shot and killed during an armed robbery at a restaurant near Brits.
Rapport reported that Sanders was shot in the stomach and later died of his injuries.

"Kallie Kriel of AfriForum happened to be at the Thatch Haven restaurant at the same time and told how his son came running to tell him that shots had been fired.

Kriel found Sanders lying outside on the ground.

Kriel said the robbers had apparently stolen wallets and cellphones from revellers at a 21st birthday party.

A police spokesperson confirmed the robbery and said a man had been shot."

The seen has a quote some guy saying that he didn't try any heroics or anything. Just was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Another website says that the birthday party he was attending was his nephew's 21st birth day party.... sad ****.
