1998 Sanders blast him out of there. We're talking about a guy who was tore up by Huck; a small cruiserweight
POvetkin outpoints the prime corrie that prime rahman stopped in about half the fight distance. povetkin stops the old corrie, the one who easily destoyed wlad in seconds.
:think Since old Wlad schooled prime Povetkin, the Sanders loss was really a fluke? Interesting angle.
I don't think it was a fluke. Corrie had a bad style for Wlad. He was tough and went for it early, bad for Wlad. Although that's when Wlad didn't hold and had worse defense. If Wlad employs tactics like against Povetkin, he could win but not without scary moments.
Babality, I'm actually trolling HerolGee. The dude has a psychological problem with the Klitschkos, especially Wladimir. He instinctively dumps on Sanders because Sanders beat Wlad, and the worse he can make Sanders look the worse Wlad by extension, is. However, he evidently forgot that Wlad >> Povetkin. So if Povetkin > Sanders, that holds the implication that Sanders' win over Wlad was a fluke. The dumbshyte argued himself into a corner :rofl For the record, I also don't think Corrie beating Wlad was a fluke. I must have been one of a dozen people who genuinely thought that he would whip Wlad going into their bout. Wlad is methodical and likes to control a bout and "build" a win. Sanders on the other hand has a pair of the fastest hands I've seen in the HW division, and when he was on song, deadly accuracy and power. When he was properly trained and motivated, he was as dangerous as they come. :good
Regarding the actual subject of the thread: Sanders vs Povetkin. These are two of my favourite fighters, and they're good in different ways. Sanders - the prime version, that had a 12 round gas tank, mobility and a mustache - was a really good boxer puncher. Looking at the bout objectively, the fight is his to lose. From the outside he had better reach, far better handspeed, straighter punches and some fancy foot work on occasion. When he got his man hurt he would finish him in a salvo of combinations. But. But Povetkin is a fairly typical Russian fighter, in that he is as hard as granite and never stops coming. He is a hard hitter himself and likes to go to the body, possibly playing a large factor in the later rounds. His own combination punching is superb - if more short ranged than Sanders' artillery. When gives me hope, and quite a lot of it, for Povetkin, is that Sanders had an ugly tendency to fight in spurts. He'd take a breather, let the other guy crowd in close and work, and then try and reply with a fusillade when he saw a gap. Now he did that with Cooper, and took some heavy shots in the process, and yet came out with a KO win regardless. I would say letting Povetkin get shots off up close is a terribly bad idea. My feeling is that this fight would start off with Sanders handily outboxing Sasha to begin with, and then after a couple of rounds the Russian starts getting busy on the inside, with Sanders retaliating in what would be a fine old slugfest. Hard to predict a winner. Sanders has more tools, is faster, hits harder. Also bigger. Povetkin is tougher, better inside, probably stronger mentally. Say 60-40 to Sanders or maybe 55-45. Close, brilliant fight imho.
you mean interesting triangle theory from YOU. flop one though as anyone knows. Wlad won, but he hasnt ever schooled povetkin yet.
60/40 for Povetkin. AP has a good chin, good stamina, and better all around skills Sanders is bigger, faster and hits harder.
I think HerolGee's the Triple Lindy of flops. Just mention Wlad or any of his opponents, and splash, there he goes again. With him the double and triple standards apply, and to heck with the facts!
