Best version of each (no mythical invincible Marciano vs fat golfer comparisons)

    How does this play out?

Even more unfair matchups for Rocky in the SHW-Devision? Thought the board has overcome fundamnetalistic idiocy nowadays....

The best version of Rocky in this instance is the one with the best chance of success in this fight.

With that in mind I imagine Rocky bulks up about a stone in weight and stops Sanders after weathering an early storm.

In that case, I’ll imagine that Corrie actually manages to acquire world class conditioning and enters the ring at a cut 240, then proceeds to knock Rocky out of the ring.

Yeah i got Corrie by KO2. Some of the fastest punches the division has ever known, each packed with dynamite, against a slow slugger giving away 40lbs, Corrie is probably the worst stylistic nightmare of them all for the Brockton Blockbuster

I see a prime Sanders overwhelming Marciano in a fashion he did to Cooper but with Marciano going out on his shield. I don't think Rocky's face lasts long enough to drag Corrie into deeper waters.

The best version of Sanders would train for cardio, I agree. I don't think his cardio would be enough to keep Rocky at bay down the stretch of aa figh though.

He has the power to knock out anyone but I favour Rocky to weather the storm.

Sanders too big, too fast, too powerful. Repeat of Sanders vs Bobby Czyz.

How good is Sanders' jaw when he gets "Suzie Q'ed" ?

It was solid enough to take a brutal barrage for 8 rounds from a guy who outweighs the Rock by 60lbs

But that doesnt matter. It doesnt last long enough for Corrie's chin to test the 190lb Suzie

Sanders is basically a fighter with one good win.

It might be a very impressive win, but it is not really enough to start picking him over dominant champions in their prime.

He is an interesting "might have been", but nothing more.

Did Marciano ever fight a Southpaw?

    Not when Sanders fought them.

Beating up on a name fighter, who is not currently operating at world level, does not count as a world level win.

Its like when people ask you whether Joe Louis could have handled a world class southpaw, and you have to tell them quite frankly that you don't know.

If he had lived in an era where there was a southpaw hiding behind every bush, he might have adapted and excelled against them, or it might always have been an inherent weakness.

That argument tends to end in stalemate.

The question that you have to ask, is "how impressive would this win look on Marciano's resume?"

Cooper had ceased to be a player at world level when Sanders beat him. If you are losing to a 40+ year old Mike Weaver in 1993, then you are not a top contender any more.

Czy had been inactive for two years, and he retired after the fight.

Nelson was coming off two losses.

That leaves us with his win over Wladamir Klitschko, which I take nothing away from. It was tremendous, and it is just the gift that keeps on giving.

It still leaves him as a bit of a one hit wonder though!
