Although I think that Jones had the mobility and skill to outbox Sanders, facing him right after he dusted Wlad would have been dangerous. Jones could not afford to get hit at all. Additionally, Corrie had very fast hands for a man of his size along with a decent reach, so the possibility of him tagging Jones early is not out of the question. Frankly, I think Sanders would have a very good chance of knocking him out. Jones best bet would have been to circle Sanders in an effort to get him into the later rounds, when Corrie's stamina and handspeed tended to evade him. Nevertheless, it would have been a treachurous test for Roy.

Sanders would have blasted him out of there

Roy Jones Jr. Vs. Power Punchers = bad formula for Roy.
there is a reason he didn't face the strong hitter's of his era. (Chin)

Jones. Jr would box Sander's face off until 1 single shot lands on Jones
and it's "Light's Out" for Roy. No doubt the Chances of Sander's landing a shot have to be better than Roy throwing a "Perfect game no hit shutout" victory without getting hit
at least once, which is all it would take.
(I doubt a fighter has ever been "0" in the history of "Punchstat")

Sanders by brutal KO. That would've looked much better for Jones than getting knocked out by Tarver.

Interestingly enough, had this fight occurred, the winner may very well have had the concensus vote as the rightful lineal champion in 2003. Lennox Lewis had retired by this point. Vitali had lost to Lewis in that same year, and was generally considered as the lesser of the two Klit Bros, the other of which was badly beaten by Sanders. John Ruiz had been humiliated by Jones. Holyfield was done for, and Chris Byrd was not very highly thought of. Had Sanders beaten Jones, or vice versa, the man left standing could have very conceivably been considered " THE MAN ".

:deal Great breakdown bro I agree 100%..
I think a Jones Jr. Vs. Byrd would have been a good Heavyweight fight.
(Even tho I'm not the big fan of Roy at Heavyweight at all...Byrd is safe)

Im fishing for determining the difference between world class hall of fame skill, and journeyman level skill. does that make sense for you russell? So far people have determined there stance on the subject for me.

    It's hard to factor sometimes..
because even a "Journeyman" skill level Fighter has the ability to K.O. an HOF'er with that one perfectly placed either Punch or Punches. it has happened throught the history of this sport, That's what makes Boxing #1

I am curious into what you will come up with tho bro...keep us posted.

Funny how I've never seen anyone fault Schmeling for being KO'd in one by Gipsy Daniels three years before he fought for the heavyweight title of the world.

    Agreed,

Max Baer was outboxed by Jim Braddock, who for most of his career bore the description of a journeyman. Of course, he eventually rose above that label, but only for a brief period. Douglas was a fringe contender type, much like Sanders, and he did the impossible as well. Norton was viewed as nobody special before beating Ali in 1973. The list goes on and on.

It seems like people use this exuse every time discussing sanders in hypothetical matchups. Exactley how many times does the journeyman need to get lucky in fantasy matchups?
