Did you hear that Ali got destroyed by Holmes and Berbick? Let's see what Wilder looks like when he's like 40.
Corrie was an underachiever who was very inconsistent. He'd have had to have been very switched on against Wilder. And I think he would have been if it had've been a big fight. I think he'd have respected how dangerous Wilder was and he'd have got himself in shape. Again, you keep pushing Wilder's stats. But although they have to be respected, we can't ignore his flaws and how he and Sanders would match up stylistically. Wilder knocking out heavier guys isn't hugely impressive. Because although he's often at a weight disadvantage, he's tall and possesses a huge reach with long arms. And it's his reach and his great power that gets him his wins. Although Wilder could stop him, he'd find it hard to time a fast and explosive southpaw. I'd have given Sanders a very good chance of beating him. I like that you're a passionate poster, but you're too hung up on statistics. You're the type of guy to pick Wilder over Tyson based on stats.
Wlad was a “hype job” back then, not an ATG. Wilder is 3-0-1 against top 5ish opposition. Sanders was 1-3 with three stoppage loses, counting Rahman who was top ten at best when they fought.
Are you seriously comparing Sanders' era - the era of Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, Morrison, Moorer, Lewis, Wladimir, Vitali, Rahman, Ruddock, Tucker and more - to the collection of cans we have today, drifting aimlessly around in the fetid waters of the cloaca maxima? Give me a break. Apples and oranges.
That seems to be what about all Wilder fans are doing. As if #1 ranked back then was equal to today's #1. Today's new boxing fans are terrible...
Are you giving Sanders credit for beating these guys or even existing in the same era as some of them?
Yeah.....but your boy sanders fought NONE of the above......except WK who picked him out of the trash can and it back fired.....and no WK was not "Big" by then, he already packed it in against Purrity and shortly afterwards was starched in a heavy bag session by Brewster. But he did fight a fighter who competed in the above area and made his bread being Mike Tysons sparring partner...and that said sparring partner who was not even a big guy iced him cold . fact. Nobody ever took sanders seriously.......he knocked over cans in south africa and got even ko'ed by a can in the process. Let me quote another one hit wonder, Hasim Rahman after the weigh in for the sanders match " If I loose to a bum like sanders I will never fight again, that would be the end for me" end quote............and despite packing some serious glass he survived Sanders pixie dust and stopped him. The End.
I agree that he underachieved. You've made some good points. But I think he'd have been a big threat to Wilder.
You may want to try again. Meanwhile, in bum city, Wilder continues to feast on cans and old geezers. Well, I say 'feast' but what I actually mean is 'go life and death and then win at the last moment'. What a career
I'm saying that Wilder's track record in bum city is nowhere as impressive as people are now making it out to be. I went 50-0 against some tramps by the bridge. I hope everybody recognizes my greatness
