Corrie Sanders vs Wlad

It's important to remember, however, that Vlad has completely changed his style since fighting Corrie Sanders. Vlad's new style, in fact, is a consequence of his having lost to Sanders.

At the time of the Sanders fight, Vlad was essentially a stand-up boxer/puncher who dominated his opponents by beating them down with incessant combinations, especially the right hand. Vlad was flat footed in those days, and he tended to move forward. If Vlad had reason to fear or respect his foe, he'd keep his guard high and dominate with his left jab, but still, he was always flat footed.

Vlad's flat footed approach made him a sucker for Sanders's powerful, lightning quick left hand. That's why Vlad has changed trainers, switching from Fritz Sdunek to Manny Steward. Steward has totally altered Vlad by teaching him to move on his feet and to remain at long range as much as necessary, and to avoid trying to walk his opponents down by battering them relentlessly with left-right combos while moving forward. Now, Vlad wins by jabbing and moving, and he takes his time getting the knockout.

Under Manny's tutelage, Vlad is also clinching a lot, which he never did when he was with Fritz Sdunek.

To put it simply, the Vlad of today is far less likely than the Vlad of '03 to get hit with the bombs that he took against Sanders.

Sure, Haye stands a chance against Vlad. But Haye's chances are far less against the current version of Vlad than they would have been against the '03 version of Vlad, though.

 

But not a giant leap for mankind.
Anyway, there's a whoooole lot of wiggle room between Fields and Lewis. That's like "better footwork than Butterbean, but not as good as Sweet Pea."

And Wlad had boxed only 3 months before and he took this fight on very short notice. Not well prepared for the hard hitting southpaw.

Wlad was not focused on this fight. But he learned his lesson.

 

Why? Does he not get dropped in the version that plays in your imagination? The guy on the canvas late in the 1st round is named V-i-t-a-l-i.

 

Vlad did not prepare for that fight. He lifted weights instead of sparring, and no southpaws, while Sanders had been training for many months, preparing to fight Valouev in South Africa. Sanders was in the best shape of his life, he came in at only 225 lbs! Kohl did not get Vlad a top ten fighter like he wanted. Vlad had just stopped a prime McCline, so he was let down. I wrote here on this forum that if you wanted to see Vlad get knocked down, and perhaps even losing a fight, it would be this one. Corrie Sanders was an awesome fighter, with huge power, best southpaw in heavyweight history and he could have been a champion for many years if he had stayed in shape. I wrote Universum about the folly of this fight, warning..... also wrote on boxing.de forum. Told a member of Team Klitschko about this. Did no good. I knew that if Vlad were not well prepared, he could lose. I had followed Sander's career for years and knew. His fighting name was "Sniper" and for good reason. Notice that Vlad came into the ring cold as ice, did not warm up at all. Sanders had a very long reach, extremely quick straight left hand, which comes at you backwards. Sanders is almost 6 feet 5, with a very long reach. I knew this..........................

Amateur analysis, that is what this thread is...If A beat b, then c will destroy b too. That is the basis of this thread. That is not how boxing works.

First, this Wlad so many years ago, is nothing like the Wlad today. Doesn't even have a hall of fame trainer Steward there. Also, Sanders is a southpaw, Haye is not. BIG DIFFERENCE.

Haye better learn to be southpaw quick if he stands a chance. Trust me everyone. I have watched boxing for years. I told everyone ODH was in for a rude awakening when fighting Pac. Haye and his followers are in for a rude awakening too, unless something changes.

Haye will be totally outclassed in this fight. Vlad took this fight because he wanted it, not because he had to take it. Gomez would knock Haye out, so would several heavyweights. Haye refused to fight a top ten heavyweight for a very good reason.

 

Wlad looked passed sanders,,,an he payed for it,,,sanders can punch, lewis did the same with reahamam, an he could had many stewart that fight, an more then likely he still would looked passed sanders, his eyes were on lewis, if you watch the fight, wlad came in more aggressive then normal, he was looking for the KO, that giving this guy no respect, an he payed,,,,,If wlad would gave this guy the respect, more then likly sanders would of been gone by the 5th,,,,,,,

 

Here we go again, lying and telling bul**** stories...Prior to the sanders fight, there was a story at Maxboxing. It told how the sparring partner works, the types they are and stuff like that. The sparring partners they used for the story were guys, training with Wlad, prior to his march fight that year(Sanders).
As far as I remember there were 3 different guys sparring with Wlad. And the article told that one of them, Friday ahunya, I think it was, was battered so severely by wlad that he refused to spar the next day..Wlad had to promise him to go easy on him, before he returned...

So Wlad did indeed spar, he did however not spar against southpaws.
