Cortez was completely in over his head. He lost total control after the headbut.

    - Why did he count it a KO? By the rules, he can not count it a KO because he DID NOT SEE the KO.

    - By the rules, the fighter who committed the foul should be sent to the neutral corner!

    - By the rules, he has to signal clearly if the time is in or not: there was total confusion!

    - He is supposed to be between both fighters and not 5 feet away!

    - By the rules, he is supposed to watch AT ALL TIMES the action in the ring and not look outside the ring !

IMO, the fight shoudl be declared a NC because of this incompetent referee and not at elast because of Floyd's poor sportmanship.

He did not see the first punch. He saw the second punch because Ortiz was moving backwards and came to Cortez line of vision. He was actually motioning to the timer to start the clock.

I just don't know what is the actual sequence that a referee should do.

    Would he :

    1. Separate the fighter, then signal the fight to continue, then notion to the time keeper to start the clock

    or

2 . Separate the fighters, signal the time keeper to continue the timer, then signal the fighters for hostilities to continue

Because if it was the first, then most likely, the referee would not be seeing the punches being thrown when the hostilities already started while notifying the time keeper to start the timer.

I should look at how Bayliss does it because definitely, a referee should never let his eyes off the fighters once he motioned for the hostilities to continue otherwise a fighter might sucker punch the other fighter or low blow him without the referee seeing if it was a legitimate punch.

I think you should probably be bent over your mommas knee, and given a spanking, for being such a blubbering little child.

If *******s had as much class as Ortiz, boxing forums would be interesting

    Keith Kizer -

“Joe pointed to the timekeeper and said ‘Time in,’” Kizer said. “At that point, the fight is back on and they’re free to punch each other. Joe had them separated, but Victor went to hug him four separate times. But the referee said ‘Time in’ and Floyd Mayweather threw a perfectly legal punch. I have no idea why Victor kept trying to hug him or embrace him. I guess he was feeling guilty because of the head butt, but hey, you’re in a fight. Fight and then feel guilty later.”

Kizer felt he was pretty clear.

1: He saw the knockout. Quite obviously

    2: This is false

3: All the referee has to do is say "time in". Nothing more.

    4: not true either

    5: He was watching.

So, if you ignore boxings rules, and the fight video, you're completely right.

Truth is, Ortiz is a fool. Mayweathers a veteran.

Why's the guy trying to hug FOUR times? He deserved to get hit

    You know, it's pretty plain.

If Ortiz tried to hug Mayweather once, fair enough.

The guy had moved in 4 times to do it. And even after the ref announced time in, he was trying to do it again.

I was begging Floyd to put his fist in the rookies mouth. Teach him a lesson

You can't prove Cortez didn't see the KO or wasn't aware of what was happening.

It will only be changed to a NC if Mayweather tests positive for a banned substance.

    We await their OSDT results.
