I have been really dissapointed by joe cortezs performances lately!
he has become a contradiction of himself!! different rules for different fighters!! he should have cautioned hopkins last night for consistently holding and sometimes blatant use of the head!! when we look back at mayweather - hatton, constant interferance from him about holding and inside fighting nearly ruined the fight!

Cortez is a disgrace and should be retired by the Commission

Cortez sucks ass...but I didn't think he was too bad in the Calz-Hopkins fight.

I mean he had a chance or two where he could've had a Joe Cortez moment (taking a point for low blows...even ticky tack ones like that) but instead he resisted the urges in his body to be a douche and did the right thing.

performances:think when did i ever go to see a ref move round the ring and call time.

the guy did nothign for hatton and helped floyd a bit due to him knowing of hattons dirty tactics.

even when joe calzaghe and hopkins was on he brok them up imediatly...this gives them more reasons to clinch when they know that it will bore the fans and will have to force the fighters to fight there way out

I really don't see any difference between this fight and the Hatton fight. He broke them up immidiatly every time that they clinched just like the did with Floyd and hatton.

When hopkins tried to make a show for the second alleged low blow Cortez put an end to it immidiatly

Yeah, ****ing douche. It's like he doesn't even accept infighting as a part of boxing. He doesn't give the fighters to work out of a clinch on their own either, and he jumps in and separates them prematurely.

He should have allowed Calzaghe to fight on and hit Hopkins.

Overall, were you disappointed with Calzaghe's performance, despite him being the winner?

I'm not a big Cortez fan. Mainly because I think he hosed Holyfield in the 2nd Ruiz fight and called that fight ending body shot KO a low blow and gave Ruiz days to recover. And I didn't like the fact the way he was so chummy with Ruiz after. But, I digress....

I thought Cortez did a good job on Saturday in a very difficult fight to ref. I loved it when he didn't buy B-Hop's ploy for a 2nd rest period for a low blow towards the end. It was the right call.

I wish he would have warned B-Hop for leading with his head constantly. But, that is about my only complaint.

And there is a difference between his reffing of this fight and his reffing of the Hatton fight. In this fight, B-Hop didn't really want to clutch and work on the inside. He just wanted to counter Calzaghe coming in and then clutch him so Calzaghe couldn't work and so that B-Hop could get a rest. Hatton likes to hold AND work on the inside. I think that was the problem with Cortez's reffing of the Hatton fight. Here, separating them was appropriate.

    He was awful.

I know he was aware of counter rights being a potential problem, but all he had to do was jab, double and treble up his jab. But even his jab looked off, the timing, and general technique (his body was out of synch with his arm even!).

Everything was inexplicably bad, Hopkins' smarts were only a small factor in that. He must have had a useless training camp. His mentality was even worse than in the Bika fight in the first few rounds.
