Upon re-watching the Hatton/Mayweather fight I noticed just HOW BAD Cortez was. I initially thought that he was just bad, but he was absolutely horrendous. He worked harder than the fighters did :-(
Yeah you're right, He kept letting Hatton hit Mayweather when he held his head down and let him hit on the break constantly! Cortez is a son of a *****!! LMAO
Cortez sucked from bell to KO - but the outcome would have been the same, but by UD maybe 116-112 rather than the KO. It's just a shame that Joe didn't allow Ricky to fight his fight. I thought the Mayweather camp were clever though, in the change room they mentioned about the wrestling and brawling, maybe it stuck in Mr Cortez's mind? By taking away Ricky's best chance of doing Floyd any damage, they made the fight much easier. One thing people forget is that Kostya Tszyu remarked after their fight that he couldn't believe how strong Hatton was.
I doubt that very much Quick punch in bollocks, and a scissor kick to the temple. Good night my friend.
Not a question of cheating, but he wouldn't allow him to BRAWL - that isn't cheating. OK it is unorthodox, and not pretty to watch, but not cheating.
actually yeah now that i think about it, if mayweather and hatton met in a pub, i think it would be mayweather going face first into a stool. would probably be similar in the ring
I've watched it a few times myself and I agree that had the fight been ref'd correctly that the outcome may have been drastically different. It's a shame that a fighter who comes to fight gets penalized for being a brawler. I personally find Ricky's style awesome to watch. He wasn't outclassed as many stated shortly after the fight. Nowhere more does the old saying that styles make fights apply, Ricky was in a fight where his style simply wasn't allowed.
I think the Tszyu fight was fairly even in terms of infringements, Kostya wasn't an angel! Hatton often gets criticised for saying 'it's not a tickling contest', referring to the fact that he isn't an angel - but you have to look after yourself in there. He came to fight but wasn't allowed to - credit to Mayweather's trainer for putting it into Cortez's mind, and to Floyd himself, a truly world class operator. To be fair, they got their tactics spot on - not many people would have told Floyd to stand and fight with Ricky Hatton. Plenty have tried that before and ended up flat on their back. If Ricky and Floyd were in a pub having an argument, I know where my money would be though!
I should have made it clear that Mayweather beats Hatton 10/10 times imo,,,but Cortez stopped the fight to talk to the fighters 3 times in the first two rounds....thats WAAAY too much. And it was for very minor things....or even nothing I could see at all one time. He did a **** job imo
