Doesnt matter. Both fighters adhere to the rules.Hopkins is a bit more wiley than Joe and has been known to roughouse and hit on the blindside but i dont see any problems with Cortez at all.

In theory it should help Calzaghe if he refs anything like the Hatton fight.

If he refs this fight like he reffed the Hatton fight, Brits should be all for it. The quick breaks after clinches.. It would hurt Hopkins more than it would hurt Joe.

really dont think they should have appointed joe cortez ref after his performance in the last superfight,no matter of the result he was very contradictory in his refereeing.on a technical note it should suit joe calzaghe big time and with cortez nard might not be allowed to tie joe up ... but then again we just don't know what will happen when the fight is in las vegas with an american ref and an american fighter.

exactly. whilst 'nard can be a bit sneaky with his headbutts and roughousing neither of these guys employ regular illegal tactics so neiter have anything to worry about with regards to the choice of ref.

actually in the Hatton fight he pretty much warned or penalized Hatton everytime he came remotely close to breaking the rules, but allowed Mayweather to use illegal tactics all night.

Cortez is an absolutely horrible ref. Both Marquez and Pacquiao didn't want him to ref their rematch.

Whilst I agree with greengloves, I don't think Joe will have the problems that Hatton had. His style of fighting is completely different and Joe is much better at adapting to a situation in the ring than Hatton.

This favors Calzaghe because Cortez will jump in quickly when Hopkins tries to hold. They should have gotten a ref like Kenny Bayless or Steve Smoger. Cortez left a bad impression with his handling of Hatton/Mayweather.

:patsch i am soooooooooooo sick and tired of people complaining that Hatton got screwed in the fight against Floyd just cause Cortez didnt allow Hatton to HOLD all night you say he got screwed? This is not MMA it is boxing and it really didnt matter who was the referee in that fight because Ricky Hatton is not anywhere near the same class of fighter as Mayweather...Mayweather did NOT have to fight on the inside against him and he did anyway......that was an easy fight for Floyd...I guess its Cortez's fault that Hatton blocks punches with his face???:-(

now in regards to the B hop- Calzaghe fight......this will make no difference...Joe C comes to fight an B hop comes to hold...this should work out for Calzaghe!!:hey :good

This Cortez BS is getting out of hand. Cortez does a great job in PBF Hatton enforcing marquis of queensbury rules and guys are bitching like Hatton got short changed? Puhlease. This is boxing not UFC or some street brawl.Hatton knows the dam rules.Cortez is a dam good ref.

Hopkins hasnt infought in years. Last time i saw him stay in someones grill was when he fought Echols and that was years ago. If both fighters work within the clinch there wont be any problems.
