I called for Cortez after what I saw in the Hatton fight :happy

It won't make a damn bit of difference to the result, but less clinching should improve the spectacle, and beating Joe dishes out

Hopefully. I'm just worried about Hopkins initiating the clinches and Cortez jumping in before they work themselves out of it.

Problem with Cortez in the Hatton fight was that he was calling break before there even was a clinch.

If he follows that in this fight then I think it hurts Hopkins.

Ricky Hatton did not lose because of Cortez............though he was unable to give his best performance because of Cortez.

Roger Mayweather made a remark whilst Floyd was receiving his instructions regarding rough house tactics, and it clearly had an impact on the fight, as Ricky wasn't allowed to fight inside and open Floyd up like he did Castillo, yet Floyd was breaking every rule in the book!

Listen, I don't wanna sound like a screwed up dickhead, because Floyd would have won regardless, though probably by decision 116-112 had Cortez been fair.

In this one, Joe is probably suited to Cortez (if Cortez does the same as the Mayweather fight) as ol'Poppy will be clinching and headbutting all night long.

Having backed Calzaghe all the way, I now lean slightly more towards Hopkins, feeling this is too close to call.

It obviously suits Joe Calzaghe because Cortez doesn't like rough-house tactics ( most probably to be used by Hops) and mainly cause he doesn't want to be labelled again as an anti-British referee... Meaning, that there's every likelihood that Cortez will want to make it up for what happened in December and don't play so partial towards the american fighter. Just want to add that seems to me that Cortez never was an official in a Calzaghe fight and he was very much criticized ( and almost manouevred in the back stage) by the Hopkins team in the 3rd fight with Allen for those reasons which imply rough-housing by Allen - so having heard Hopkins talk to Cortez back then, it doesn't look like Cortez has the guts to take points away from him either.

Cortez broke Hatton and PBF up before clinches had even begun. And if you go back and watch pretty much any of the legends from the past right through to recent fighters, clinches happen and are allowed for a few seconds as fighters should fight there way out.

Hatton HAS got away with too much holding in the past. But breaking a clinch after 0.5 seconds is pathetic and has NEVER happened in boxing in the past century and jumping in to break the fighters before they have even actually clinched is simply laughable. Cortez did both.

**** even those two Youtube geeks who hate Hatton and do that show Boxing 4 Real or whatever its called, were saying Cortez was awful.

    Indeed, he was dominating.

And why would the fight last all twelve? Mayweather was clearly beating the **** out of Hatton by round 7. No way Hatton would've made it out of this ring on his feet, with or without Cortez.

    Hatton haters make me laugh.

I don't mind it when some people say the result would have been different with another ref and they dispute it....

....but when they dispute that the ref did a bad job, it's just ridiculous.

Hatton just did not get a chance to fight his fight, at one point in the early rounds he staggered Floyd, went to close the distance and ref stepped in between them. Laughable.

(Scurlaruntings being one of the main Hatton haters, he hates clinching......bet he'd love to have a clinch with Junior Witter though)
