Under fire by U.S. media for his handling of the Humberto Soto-Francisco Lorenzo clash two weeks ago in Las Vegas, referee Joe Cortez will be back in the limelight on Saturday. The "Fair but Firm" Cortez will be the third man in the ring for the HBO-televised IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight championship fight between world champion Wladimir Klitschko and WBO mandatory challenger Tony Thompson in Hamburg, Germany. Judges will include Michael Pernick (USA), John Stewart (USA) and Manfred Küchler (Germany). Source: Fightnews.com
Thanks. He won't have that much to do here, I don't think, he probably won't even have to call it off, but still....why? "He speaks Spanish and he has a nice catchphrase"? Tell them i'll do it for $250.
Damn . . . is this confirmed? :huh :-( Anyway . . . the ref and the judges won't have any use . . . this fight will not last long.
This ought to send the right message. Putting Cortez right back in the ring has really helped his performances. atsch
**** **** **** **** **** ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This gives me just a horrible feeling. The worst, most shady ref in the business. Why does he have to touch a Wlad fight? Stick to Wayne Kelly damnit. Or Smoger. Even shitty Cotton is better than Corsuck.
Christ on a ****ing bike is it really going to matter who the referee is? On one side we've got glass WALD and on the other side we've got Thompson Whichever way it goes, all Cortez will have to do in this fight is count to 10. He might put a stop to the WALD n' grab tactics though, and that's no bad thing.
