If you look at the replay, Cortez has this very same facial expression 3-4 seconds before the first left hook, and 3-4 after the lead right is landed, so at least during 10 seconds. It is the same face regardless of what is happening. Complete senility. He looks actually totally out of control and not aware of anything.

Cortez really ****ed this one up. He's there to keep this kind of **** from happening and if **** does happen, take the proper measures. He failed all aspects.

Bottom line. He should get fired.

Correct, but sadly he will keep on getting more big fights from GBP and I'm 100% sure he will referee all of Floyd's future fights:nut

  9. Stanley Ketchel got KO'd trying to be sportsmanlike once... and it never happened to him again.

Ortiz learned that "Protect yourself at all times" actually has a meaning, and he learned the lesson at the worst possible time. I bet this never happens to him again.

Cortez never said box. He did give the signal to box with his hands, though. Furthermore he did not put Mayweather to neutral corner before doing the fast count that took about 7-8 seconds. Cortez could've maybe saved the fight (and bailed his own ass) by taking some time directing Mayweather to neutral corner and giving a long count at the end of the round for Ortiz. Ortiz was slightly stunned by the free-shot right hand, but a few more seconds might've been enough for him to get up and keep the fight going. What this bou showed was that Mayweather sure does not have any kind of KO power in his hands. Given that kind of free shot your opponent should be dead cold on his back on the floor at that level.

    :good:think

I'm just wondering too, did Cortez even give Floyd a chance to recover or ask the doctor to look at Floyd's face. Wouldn't that have been the proper thing to do if a intentional head butt occurred? :-:)think

Well I guess since Floyd doesn't over exaggerate his injuries like so many other fighters do Cortez didn't feel the need for that.
