Which is partly the reason why Hatton kept getting so out of shape. Imagine if Ricky showed up to Floyd Snr to commence camp weighing what he does currently. Floyd would tell him to go **** off & stop wasting his time! It shows that Kevin Cunnigham is serious & believes in Cory, but won't just go laong for the ride to just get paid. If a fighter is not helping himself then how can he expect others to help?
Cory was having problems making welterweight and had to move up to '54. He had a middle fight against JT and the unofficial weight was 168 for cory in the ring that night. I've read that cory has always walked around at b/n 175-180 in b/n fights even at welter. Almost 200 pounds shows that the hunger is gone now. He might not get beat by k-9, but a slightly better guy will end his career. Any of the other titlists KO him to be honest except foreman who will win a 118-110 type nod.
That's terrible news. Spinks is a great fighter and with his legs gone and fighting style by necessity having been adapted into more of a fan-friendly center-ring box-and-slug style (see: Phillips and Lattimore matches), a strong ******* like K9 is dangerous as it is for Cory in his best possible current shape. If he's not 100% (such as 100% for him is these days) he could get really badly hurt. :verysad Throw corner turbulence into the mix and...ill portent... And that would be a damn shame - a) for Cory's health, and b) because he's a damn fine boxer and doesn't deserve a loss to someone like Bundrage on his record. And Bundrage doesn't deserve a name like Cory Spinks on his record as a KO victim.
Yeah, Next Gen has gone the way of Star Trek TNG - a recent classic. This is no way for him to go out. Hopefully he's able to get one more halfway decent win here and then pack it in.
