Cory Spinks is a glorified journeyman. He became champion by getting a gift against Mayorga, and got KTFO by Judah.
Spence has a good win against a damaged fighter and spinks is a multiple world champion who fought some really good fighters and champion I'll go with spinks on points until Spence is more proven
He moved up and ran prime Jermain Taylor very close, and beat Judah, Karmazin, Mayorga, González, Piccirillo, and Rodney Jones (who took Margarito's zero) all with like 5% the hitting power of the average welterweight, all on pure smarts, hand speed & skill alone. I'd say glorified journeyman is a little harsh.
Thank you. Spence is more athletic than Spinks, but we have never seen him outbox as slick a boxer as Spinks.
50-50 fight. In his best night Spinks outboxed Mayorga and Jermain Taylor. There is no reason why he can't do the same with Spence. As a matter of fact, beating Spinks was Judah best accomplishment. Without that Judah would be the most underachieved talent who lost all his big fights.
Ok, maybe I am being too harsh. Mayorga and Judah were two of my favorite fighters and I felt they were better fighters than Spinks. I felt Spinks lost to Mayorga, and Judah obviously proved he was a level above in the rematch. Cory Spinks was a decent B level fighter. His best win was a close fight he almost lost against Judah, who he himself was a notch below A level.
Spence is better than Cory Spinks. It's pretty obvious from watching them. I will give Spinks credit for overacheiving.
Spinks was maybe the fourth slickest boxer of his generation, behind Floyd Mayweather Jr., Iván Calderón, and Omar Andrés Narváez. h2h, Spence might stop him but that would have to do with Spence being more physically gifted. He'll never be half as slick as Spinks.
